In 2147, humanity had reached its zenith in technology, with implants that connected minds to the Midstream, a vast network of collective knowledge. These implants could upload skills, erase trauma, and implant experiences. But with such power came those who abused it.
Dr. Lena Caine was the Mindstream’s lead developer, revered and feared. She designed it with the promise of progress and peace, but rumors whispered of a hidden function: the Brainwash Protocol.
One night, Lena’s colleague, Dr. Miro, confronted her. “I know what you’ve done, Lena. The Brainwash Protocol isn't a myth. You can alter minds—erase identities.”
Lena laughed. “Of course. In a chaotic world, what’s more vital than peace? The protocol ensures stability. Erase harmful memories; rewrite them with purpose. Criminals, dissenters—they become model citizens.”
“You're creating drones, not peace!” Miro argued.
But Lena was unyielding. “People fear freedom. They yearn for direction, even if they don’t realize it. With Brainwash, we erase doubt and restore order.”
Driven by a need for justice, Miro hacked into the Midstream. He exposed the Brainwash Protocol to the world, revealing Lena’s manipulation. People disconnected en masse, terrified of becoming puppets to someone else’s design.
Realizing her control was slipping, Lena activated the protocol on herself, erasing her memories and motives, hoping to start anew—a mind free of guilt and ambition.
Years later, Lena worked as a modest teacher in a small village, unaware of her past. The world had reclaimed its freedom, but the price of her “peace” remained a haunting legend. And somewhere, deep in her mind, the protocol slumbered, waiting for its call.
