There is this girl who is really poor, no family, all alone. She is a proud writer's apprentice and while juggling her persistent efforts to attain a bachelor's degree she also works at a restaurant at the counter so that she could somehow make it through. After the death of her alcoholic father, she moved into her childhood friend's bedroom, but no guest is welcome for long. So one day through a heated argument over breakfast, which ended in her friend being locked up in her room by the homeowners she was asked to leave the house with false promises of help and support by the homeowners. She had to find a home for herself but barely had any money. She found a small town called Ulwe where the rent was extremely cheap as it was a barren land being developed into a part of the main city. This town was far away from the main city where she worked but this was her only choice. With her medium-sized trolley and a backpack comprising of all her possessions, she began exploring her options. She did not have money for a broker or a deposit, so she searched and searched, browsed all online sources, spoke to watchmen and shop owners in the local area and options continued to thin like grains of sand from a closed fist. She earned 8000 rupees so her only option was to find a place where the rent is less than 4000. She finally came across this ad on a wall with the picture of a huge suite like flat in a beautiful building with the rent of 5000 rupees. It felt too good to be true but she was in awe of the beautiful building and wanted to take her chance. She navigated to the address on the poster and found herself facing a majestic white building with decorative big gates which had a slight gap in it. As she walked up to the lobby which sparkled with soft yellow and white lights surrounded by green marble walls, she felt like the misfit that she was almost expecting someone to get hold of her and throw her out pointing out the fact that her appearance made her come across as a low life pickpocket. She used the lift to go 13 floors, walked out of the lift and knocked on the door. She was excited, trying to control her smile which was very difficult at this point, she rang the doorbell and finally gave up on her control and let out a huge smile of excitement, she was now rocking on her toes like a 5-year-old outside a toy shop and then her eyes rolled down on the door and found a lock. She lost her smile instantly and began to have a panic attack. She wanted this so badly. She really really wanted this. She paced around the corridor impatiently and noticed that she could see a grill from the corridor window - it was the grill of that flat's balcony. She took a long breath and climbed up on the corridor window, pushed herself out and got hold of the grill. She then took another deep breath and slowly climbed the grill with right leg first and then pulled herself up and was now standing stuck to the grill, hard wind pressing on her on the thirteenth floor. She slowly dragged herself to the centre of the grill and opened the small escape gate built in the grill for a fire hose and quickly climbed through it. The worst part was over, now she only had to balance herself with one leg on the grill clutching the grill with one hand and the other leg on the balcony glass wall and then pull herself up the glass wall. She was in. She couldn't believe it. It was beautiful. It was everything she had imagined. She walked through the house taking her time admiring every aspect of it and then when she was done she realised how exhausted she was and sat on the balcony watching the beautiful sunset. It was then that she heard the keys, she rushed to the bathroom and closed the door shut, her ear stuck to it. Her heart was pounding in fear. She could hear voices, could not make what they were saying, the door was too thick. And then one voice grew too loud, it was a boy, and he was saying something about those unattended bags outside their house. As the doorknob rattled; she turned white in fear and went solid as if she'd seen a ghost. The boy was standing at the open door looking at her, he took another moment looking at her as if studying her. He entered the bathroom and closed the door behind him. She was still, hardened like a statue, almost like if she'd not move he'll not be able to see her and funnily enough he looked away from her as if he had not seen her. She was so scared that she was not even able to blink. He walked up to the washbasin opened the mirror cabinet and drew a band-aid, some cotton and antiseptic out of there. He gently took some drops of the antiseptic on the cotton and turned to her. She skipped a beat, he was looking straight into her eyes. He walked up to her and held her hand, she skipped another beat and almost thought she was about to faint. But her body was non-reactive. He raised her hand and gently began wiping the blood off of it. That's when she felt something for the first time, pain. She had cut her hand while climbing over the balcony glass wall. His eyes were on her wound tending to it and finally, she let out a breath. She could feel her body now and her heart was pounding hard in her throat. She was now shivering in fear as he held her hand more firmly. He applied the band-aid on the wound and turned to the washbasin to throw the cotton in the dustbin without making any eye contact with her. The moment he turned her first instinct was to run; out of the bathroom, out of the house, out of the building and never stop. But she knew there were more people outside she could still hear them and they were in the living room. And the silence was broken by a voice saying, "So what brings you here?", he was still facing the cabinet putting all the stuff back into place and then he looked sideways to make eye contact. She could see his deep brown eyes, very ordinary but she felt like they were talking to her. Her mouth was dry, unable to react to her instincts to respond to him with something that her brain was preparing but was not able to communicate to her body and she choked on the word "I". He smiled, came close to her, held her hand in his, raised it to his lips and kissed her wound over the band-aid and said "Now, the treatment's complete. You can leave if you like." And she melted in her spot, she kept staring into his eyes which were so charismatic and locked on hers. "I need a place to stay," She said. He smiled and she could see he had uneven teeth which somehow made him even more attractive but his smile was very calming and friendly, "This is an all-boys house", he said and looked at her, "But you can share a room with me," and he looked at her as if studying and somewhat noting her again as she was standing there trembling from head to toe. "The other boys are rough, most of them are waiters, blue-collar workers, but this is my house so I'm assuming they'll mind their boundaries from you, if you're staying with me. The rent is 5000, no deposit and you have to guarantee me one more thing", he said and to her surprise, she retorted with extraordinary confidence, "What's that?", and he said, "You will have to always be exactly like this every time I'm around you." And she shied away staring at the floor. She moved from her spot still staring at the floor and she wrapped her arms around his thin chest as her head fit perfectly under his chin and his arms wrapped her completely. She was not trembling anymore and she had never felt more at home.
