Lindy looked around the store and saw the sales clerk busy attending to a customer. Making sure that no one was watching, she furtively switched the price tag on a designer bag from HKD10,000 to HKD1,000.
"I love this bag and I would like to pay for it," she smiled and said as she proudly walked to the cashier's counter with the bag. Gabrielle, the sales clerk on duty, scanned the bag and panicked.
"Ma'am, I accidentally put the wrong tag. The actual price is HKD10,000," she said. Hearing this, Lindy became angry.
"What?" she snapped. "I can't believe this can happen. You're either careless or trying to rip me off." Just then, Isaac, the duty manager appeared. "What's going on here?" he asked. Shaking with fear, Gabrielle told him what had happened, while Lindy continued accusing her. "Pack it up for me, I'm paying with cash," she ordered. Isaac scanned the bag again and looked at Lindy.
"Ma'am, this bag costs HKD10,000," he said.
"What?" Lindy snapped again, her tone louder. "Are you insane? The tag says HKD1000. I'm recording this. I need to let everyone know about it." Isaac glanced at Gabrielle, who stood trembling.
"You can fire her later. Just pack my stuff. And be quick, I don't have all day," Lindy said irritably as she started her video recording.
"If I sell at this price, I'll make a huge loss," Isaac replied, undeterred. Still recording, Lindy continued, "They're trying to scam me here, guys." Seeing that the situation was about to escalate, Isaac seemingly relented. "Please don't tell anyone until you get home," he said as he packed the bag and gave it to Lindy. When she left, Gabrielle looked at Isaac, bewildered, but he told her, "Don't worry, you'll find out." Moments later, Lindy returned, furiously slamming the package onto the cashier's counter.
"What's this rubbish?" she snapped. "You gave me a different bag."
"No, Ma'am, you got exactly what you paid for. A HKD1000 bag," Isaac replied calmly.
"I'm calling the cops and I'll sue you," Lindy said relentlessly.
"Go ahead," Isaac retorted and pointed at the CCTV. "I saw you switching the tags, and I'll call the police." Ashamed, Lindy left with the cheap bag. Isaac and Gabrielle smiled. Lindy, who tried to cheat them, have gotten what she deserved.
