The Last Plug

Maya glanced again at her dashboard: 0.5% Battery. Her heart pounded as she pulled into the charging station, seeing the chaos unfold before her. People were arguing, tempers flaring. In the middle of it all, one man refused to give up his spot, even as others begged for a chance at the dwindling power. She tightened her grip on the steering wheel, knowing she didn’t have time to wait. The thought of Sam alone in the apartment gnawed at her, but the hopelessness in the eyes of the woman slumped over her steering wheel caught Maya’s attention. “Take my place,” she said softly, surprising even herself.
