It seemed to me that this story was more like an introduction to the story and a brief synopsis of it. I would be interested to see it reworked into a fairy-tale novella.

There’s a lovely, dreamlike tenderness to this story. The house made of old letters and unfinished poems, and the River of Echoes where forgotten things drift away, create an atmosphere that feels both magical and quietly sad. I especially liked the way the father’s “heroism” is gently redefined—not as perfection, but as choosing kindness and staying behind for others. That makes the ending feel more human and meaningful. The idea that remembrance restores someone not to legend, but to the truth of who they were, is beautiful. I would have enjoyed a little more time with the girl and Kael, since the journey moves by so quickly, but the central image and emotional message linger warmly.
