Yes, I was right

Everyone in his or her life goes through various moments where we discover more of ourselves. There are moments too where we are supposed to choose one over other being not sure about which one is right and which one is wrong. Life is full of things which we are unaware of until we start thinking about. This is the story based on true event in which I was too stuck between right and wrong, A story where I discover some bitter and some sweet part of life, A story where I too discovered something new.

After completing my school, I had enrolled in college and during that time our world was fighting with Covid-19 pandemic. A pandemic which I never wish anyone else to face again, a cruel time period which covered all the happiness throughout the world with grief, sorrow, sadness, depression and loss.

Soon after the wait of almost 2 years everything was coming back to track. People started going to their jobs, Institutes started to organise entrance exams and costermongers started to bloom streets again. My brother had to give entrance exams and so I being the responsible one was supposed to travel with him to Delhi for the same. As the day arrive, we both greeted our parents and left for Delhi in train. It was one night journey and we were supposed to reach the destination very next morning.

We got on our seats and everything was going as usual for me, that same Tea sellers chanting all around at every five minutes, the sellers with water bottle and chips, TTE checking tickets, kids running all around, and small baby kids crying out without any reason.

At mid night the train stopped at a station and was about to resume after 10 minutes. Since I was bored of things going inside the train, I decided to breath some fresh air stepping out on the platform. It was midnight but still there were decent number of peoples waiting on the platform for their respective trains. It was very little minutes left to resume the journey when I suddenly saw a man with a small bag in hand approaching people and asking something. He got to a boy of my age sitting just in front of me and asked something. Next, he came to me, I was curious too about knowing why the man was approaching every next person on the platform. I do not know what my feeling and expressions were when I heard what that man said to me. He quoted "dear can you help me with just Rs 100 as someone has stollen my wallet and I don't have money to buy tickets or even something to eat. I don't know why I did that but I refused to help that man. Without saying a word to me he moved on asking others to help. I was constantly seeing him asking every next person for help and getting refused. My heart started beating fast, chest got heavy, and my train started to move on in opposite direction. It took me a minute to ask my self was I wrong not helping him, was he really in need or faking. My mind was full of questions and confusion but my heart was saying the same thing every time "Just help the man if you are capable to do so". I got Rs 200 note from my pocket and started shouting to the man putting my hand out of the gate. The man saw me and the moment his eyes filled with happiness, he started to run with the speedy train but that was too late he stopped tired and all sweating looking towards me. I was too looking towards him thinking why it took me so long to choose the correct, to choose the right. Suddenly I saw a boy putting a hand on the shoulder of that needy man and handing him a wallet. That was the same boy who was sitting on the platform Infront of me. He folded his hands towards me with a smile and then towards that needy man. The man looked towards me and then hugged that boy with tears in his eyes.

Later I came inside and took my seat. My brother was smiling looking towards me and that moment I got to know "Yes, I was right." I was right in helping that man, I was right in listening to my heart over my mind at that time, I was right to stop thinking and just helping that man because I was capable. That incident made me discover more of my self and more of my inner voice.

Thinking all this and thanking God for everything, I was about to wear my headphones suddenly a cup of tea was put forward towards me. I said I don't want one for now but the man with kettle smiled and said this one is from me , I saw what you did. I looked towards him, neither I nor that needy man was related to him but still he was happy. I smiled back took the sip of tea wore headphones and started thinking "How great is this life and world is to explore".
