Chapter 1: The Inheritance
When Sarah Mitchell's grandmother died, the family expected dusty heirlooms, cracked porcelain, and worn-out letters. What they didn't expect was a mirror.
Not an ordinary mirror.
It stood taller than a man, framed in black oak carved with twisting patterns that resembled faces frozen mid-scream. Its glass shimmered faintly, like water disturbed by a pebble.
The will said simply:
"To Sarah, I leave the mirror. It remembers."
No one in the family understood, and Sarah, though uneasy, accepted it. After all, her grandmother had raised her. She couldn't throw away something that might hold meaning.
The mirror was moved to her small apartment. That first night, she draped it with a white sheet. She couldn't bear the thought of it watching her sleep.
Chapter 2: The First Glimpse
Three nights later, Sarah woke to a faint humming sound.
Her clock read 3:12 AM. The sheet covering the mirror had slipped off halfway, exposing the glass.
She swore she saw movement.
Not her reflection - something else. A dark silhouette, standing just behind her reflection, as though someone was in the room. She spun around - nothing.
When she looked back, her reflection smiled.
She hadn't.
Chapter 3: Whispers
The following week, strange things began happening.
Whispers in her ear when the room was silent.
Cold drafts when windows were shut.
Her reflection lagging, just a fraction of a second behind.
Sarah grew restless.
One night, when she pressed her hand against the glass, she felt warmth on the other side. And then - fingers pressed back.
She stumbled away, but the reflection stayed, palm flat against the glass, long after she had withdrawn.
Chapter 4: Research
Desperate for answers, Sarah searched her grandmother's attic, where the mirror once stood. She found an old leather journal, her grandmother's handwriting scrawled across its pages.
The entries chilled her:
"The mirror does not reflect. It records."
"Each soul that dies in front of it is trapped, reliving their final moments."
"It remembers everything… and sometimes, it shows you what's coming."
On the last page:
"I kept it hidden. Forgive me, Sarah. If it calls to you, never look too long."
Chapter 5: The Vision
That night, Sarah sat before the mirror, candlelight flickering.
Her reflection stared back, trembling as she was. Suddenly, the glass rippled. The room around her changed.
She saw herself, weeks older, sitting in the same chair - eyes wide, blood dripping down her neck. Behind her stood a faceless figure, its hands wrapped around her throat.
Then the vision ended.
The reflection smiled again.
Chapter 6: The Descent
Sarah tried to move the mirror out of her apartment. But every attempt failed:
Movers she hired never showed.
When she tried to drag it herself, it felt anchored to the floor.
At one point, she smashed the glass with a hammer - only for the cracks to seal themselves within seconds.
The mirror wanted her.
She stopped sleeping. Every night, she saw more visions: murders, suicides, deaths of strangers she'd never met. And each time, she saw herself, closer to her own end.
Chapter 7: The Bargain
On the 21st night, exhausted and desperate, Sarah screamed at the mirror:
"What do you want from me?"
Her reflection whispered back, though Sarah hadn't spoken aloud:
"I want you to join us."
The glass darkened, and faces appeared - hundreds of them, screaming, clawing at the glass from the inside. One of them was her grandmother.
"Help me," the face mouthed.
Chapter 8: The Final Night
October 31st.
Sarah lit every candle she had and faced the mirror, journal in hand. She read aloud the final words her grandmother had scribbled in invisible ink, now revealed by the candle flame:
"If it shows you your death, it is already written."
The mirror shimmered. Her reflection raised a knife. Sarah's hands were empty, but in the glass, her reflection grinned, stepping closer.
And then - her reflection stepped out.
Chapter 9: The Aftermath
The next morning, Sarah's apartment was found abandoned. The mirror stood in the center of the room, spotless, untouched.
But those who looked closely swore they saw a new face inside the glass.
A woman, eyes wide, mouth open in a silent scream.
Sarah.
