Chapter 1 – The Unexpected Beginning
Love had never been on my horizon. My world was carefully controlled by my father, Salam, and my brother, Akil. Rules and discipline shaped every part of my life, and even the thought of a romantic connection felt forbidden.
And then came Heran.
It started innocently, in a WhatsApp group. We exchanged casual messages at first—lighthearted jokes, shared opinions, nothing that hinted at the storm that was about to enter my heart. But there was something in his words, a warmth and sincerity, that made me curious, that made me want to know more.
A few days later, he suggested we meet in person. The plan was simple: a walk in the park with two friends accompanying us. I felt nervous as I approached, heart pounding in my chest.
“Hi, Anaya,” he said, smiling in a way that felt gentle but unshakably genuine.
“Hi… Heran,” I replied, trying to sound casual, though my hands were clammy.
We walked slowly along the path, talking about everything and nothing—our favorite books, silly childhood stories, the oddities of life. Each word he spoke, each laugh we shared, chipped away at my defenses. I was drawn to him, even as I told myself to stay cautious.
At one quiet moment, we stopped near a fountain. He looked at me with a serious, almost nervous expression.
“Anaya… I think I like you. Not just as a friend,” he said softly.
My chest tightened. I knew the rules, the boundaries of my life.
“Heran… I… I don’t think I can… I mean, we can just be friends, right?”
He didn’t look disappointed. Instead, his eyes softened, a small, understanding smile playing on his lips.
“Friends are fine… for now. But I hope someday you’ll let me in.”
Even as I said yes to friendship, my heart betrayed me. There was a pull I couldn’t explain, a feeling that grew stronger with every shared glance, every smile, every word. I tried to resist—tried to remind myself of my strict family and the complications love could bring— but slowly, almost imperceptibly, I began to feel something I had never allowed myself to feel before.
By the end of the day, I walked home with a strange mix of fear and anticipation. My heart was quietly, irreversibly stolen, even if I didn’t want to admit it yet.
That was the beginning—the unexpected beginning—of a story that would change my life forever.
