Title: Seasons of Us

Mary always believed love was like the seasons - temporary, fleeting, never meant to stay. She had seen it in her parents' crumbling marriage and felt it in every failed relationship she tiptoed through. Love, she decided, was a passing breeze, never meant to linger.

Then came John.

They met in the chill of autumn, when the world was shedding its colors, preparing for the harshness of winter. Mary was an artist, painting in the park, capturing the melancholy of fallen leaves. John was a traveler, passing through town with a backpack full of memories and a heart burdened by unspoken stories.

"Mind if I sit?" he asked, eyes warm despite the biting wind.

She barely glanced at him. "Free country."

But somehow, his presence softened the edges of her solitude. Day after day, John returned, watching her paint, sharing tales of distant places. Mary found herself drawn to his quiet strength, his gentle humor, and the sadness he hid behind a crooked smile.

Winter arrived, harsh and unrelenting, but Mary felt an unfamiliar warmth. She and John became inseparable. He taught her to find beauty in imperfection; she taught him to find peace in stillness. Yet, in the back of her mind, Mary knew that spring would come, and he would leave.

"Stay," she whispered one snowy night, fearing his answer.

"I can't," John replied softly. "There's something I need to do."

He left with the snow, and Mary's heart cracked like ice beneath careless footsteps. She tried to forget him, but his absence was louder than his presence ever was.

Spring brought life back to the world but not to Mary's soul. She painted, traveled, and searched for John's face in every crowd. Summer came, and with it, an unexpected letter.

Meet me at the place where autumn first introduced us.

Heart pounding, Mary returned to the park where it all began. And there he was, holding a bouquet of autumn leaves, his eyes filled with everything he never said.

"I left to find the courage to love you fully," John admitted. "I was afraid... but not anymore."

Tears streamed down Mary's face. "Seasons change, John."

He took her hand. "Then let's be each other's forever, no matter the season."

They say love is fleeting, but Mary and John proved that sometimes, if you're lucky, love is timeless.
