The night was heavy with silence when Olivia Carter first stepped into the Black wood Mansion. The air was thick, stale, as if the house itself had been holding its breath for centuries. Dust drifted like ash in the faint beam of her flashlight, brushing over portraits of strangers whose eyes seemed far too alive.
Most people would never have dared to live in this place. The townsfolk whispered about curses, about the tragic history of the Black wood family and how the mansion devoured everyone who dared to stay. But Olivia wasn't most people. She wasn't naive either - she had heard the stories. Yet something about this house pulled her in, like a secret waiting to be claimed.
She dropped her suitcase on the creaky wooden floor of her room, staring at the massive canopy bed draped in velvet. The house smelled faintly of old roses and rain, oddly sweet against the dust. As she began unpacking, she felt it - an unmistakable shiver crawling down her spine, as though unseen eyes traced her every move.
"Get a grip," she whispered to herself, shaking her head. "It's just a house."
But then, the mirror above her dresser fogged slightly, as if someone had exhaled against it. Her breath caught. She turned sharply, flashlight scanning the room. Empty. Still.
Almost.
Because then, in the corner of her eye, she saw it - a flicker, a shadow that didn't belong. A figure, tall, faintly glowing, leaning against the far wall as though he had been waiting for her.
Olivia's heart thundered in her chest. Her lips parted, but strangely, she felt no scream rise. The figure stepped closer, and the faint glow sharpened into a man's form - broad shoulders, dark hair tumbling in waves, eyes that glimmered like fragments of silver. He was beautiful in a way that felt wrong, like staring at fire too close, dangerous and magnetic.
"Who - who are you?" Her voice trembled, but curiosity cut through her fear.
The man tilted his head, lips curving faintly, almost amused. He didn't answer. Instead, he drifted nearer, the air cooling around her. She shivered, but not entirely from the cold.
"You shouldn't be here," he said finally, his voice low, smooth, with a darkness that wrapped around her. "This house... it doesn't let go."
Her pulse raced. Instead of running, she took a step forward, eyes locking onto his. "Then why are you here?"
That faint smile deepened, but it was filled with something unspoken, something heavy. He leaned closer, until she could almost feel his breath against her cheek, though she knew he wasn't truly alive. Her skin prickled as if touched, her lips tingling at his nearness.
Olivia gasped softly when she felt it - a brush of warmth at her wrist, fingers that weren't really there gliding against her skin. She should have pulled back. She should have been terrified. But instead, she leaned into it, as if drawn by some invisible string.
His eyes darkened, flashing with something both dangerous and hungry. "You don't know what you're inviting, Olivia."
Hearing her name on his lips sent a rush through her chest. "Then show me," she whispered, surprising even herself.
The moment stretched, electric, unbearable. Then, slowly, he raised his hand, ghostly but solid enough for her to feel, tracing along her jawline. A warmth spread from the touch, seeping into her, making her heart pound so hard she thought it might break her ribs. His thumb brushed her lips, and she trembled, caught between fear and aching desire.
Without thinking, she leaned closer. Their lips met - not flesh on flesh, but something deeper, stranger, like kissing fire and smoke at once. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, but the moment it deepened, Olivia felt her knees weaken. A rush of heat shot through her, and she clutched the edge of the dresser for balance.
The kiss lingered, intoxicating, his presence wrapping around her like silk and shadow. When he finally pulled back, his silver eyes burned into hers.
"My name is Damian," he murmured, voice roughened with something she couldn't name. "And you've just stepped into something you can't walk away from."
Olivia's chest rose and fell rapidly, her lips still tingling, her body trembling with a mixture of fear and an excitement she had never known before. She swallowed, meeting his gaze with wide eyes.
"Then maybe," she whispered, "I don't want to walk away."
Damian's smirk was sharp, dark, possessive. He leaned so close his words brushed her ear like a caress. "Careful what you wish for, Olivia. Because once I start... I don't stop."
Her entire body shuddered, every nerve alight. She wanted to reply, but her voice caught, trapped between terror and thrill. And in that silence, Damian faded slowly into the darkness, his last whisper curling around her like smoke:
"I'll see you tonight."
