Chapter 3: Indeed Friendship

It is a story of three friends named Ravi, Sumit, and Raj, all of whom studied in the same college in Lucknow. One day, they all made a plan to go on a trip to the mountains of Kasol the next week during the Holi holidays and weekends. They all went there, partied, and enjoyed a lot. On the third day of the trip, they decided to hike on a mountain track as there was a very beautiful scene above with a river flowing. Raj had a birthday on the same day, so they decided they would camp on the top and party all night. On the morning of the trek, they all geared up and purchased important equipment to make a tent at night. During their preparation, Raj noticed that Sumit was giving money to one local and taking some small packet. On asking, Sumit did not tell anything and said that he would show him that on top at night.

They all three started trekking and reached there during the evening, setting up all their tents and stuff. At night, they started partying, drinking, and enjoying, and afterwards, they all went near the river and again started consuming alcohol. To this, Raj suggested they should not do it near this river as it was dangerous, to which Sumit said they all had come here to enjoy, so just have fun. So, Ravi and Sumit started with the alcohol. Then, Sumit said that he had purchased a packet of marijuana from a local and they should give it a go. Raj immediately stopped them, saying it was a drug and they should not consume it, and started fighting with Sumit, to which Ravi came and refrained them from the fight. Raj said that he would not accompany them in this and went to the tent.

After half an hour, Ravi came to Raj and said that Sumit was guilty for his actions and he should also join them near the river. So Raj went there, and Sumit said sorry to him and promised not to do it again. They all went into the river for swimming. Meanwhile, Sumit made a plan with Ravi to play a prank on Raj: they would toss him into the river, and when he panicked, they would seize him, to which Ravi agreed. While enjoying, they both held him by the hand and legs and tried to throw him. But in the meantime, Ravi's steps slipped, and he started getting submerged in the river. Both Raj and Sumit started panicking upon seeing this scenario, but Raj immediately jumped into the water to save Ravi without hesitation and somehow managed to catch Ravi. When he was carrying the insensible Ravi near the shore, he slipped and hit his head with a rock and fainted away. Sumit with full force tried to hold both of them, but he was only able to hold Ravi, and Raj was swept away by the flow of the river.

When Ravi regained consciousness, he saw Sumit crying at a corner. He right away asked him about Raj, to which Sumit told him all the happenings. He immediately felt numb and said that it was all their fault because of which Raj had lost his life. The next morning, the police came and found his dead body. All their parents came, and everyone was sad and disturbed. Police asked the boys and Raj's parents to come to the police station in the evening, where the statements of the boys would be recorded and Raj's body would be handed over to the parents. Both Sumit and Ravi were terrified with this incident. They mutually decided that they would not disclose all the happenings of last night and would only report that they were drunk and went for swimming where Raj slipped and drowned. This was because if they told the truth, the police would know that only they both had consumed the drugs, as the police had not found any trace of weed in Raj's body during the anatomy. In the evening, their statements were recorded, and the dead body was handed to the parents.
