Chapter 2: Whispers and a Strange Book

The next morning, on Sunday, Samrat was having a conversation with his colleague, Charu. He told her that he had enrolled in a library where he could focus on his MBA studies because he was not satisfied with his current job, and if destiny worked, he could achieve his objectives. During the conversation, when his friend heard the name of the library, she asked if Samrat knew about the stories revolving around the place. She mentioned that it was considered a haunted place. To this, Samrat jokingly replied that it was all a made-up story, and locals must have started the rumors to shut down the place and harm Mr. Kaushik's business. Therefore, she should not believe such rubbish and should pray for his new journey.

On Monday morning, he was unusually excited for the day. At the office, he again met Charu and said he was eager to start his studies, and she was also happy for him. After finishing the day, he immediately left the office and reached home, where he freshened up quickly, started making dinner, and packed some snacks for late-night munching. At 9 p.m., he reached the library where he saw Mr. Kaushik anxiously waiting for him. The owner reminded him of all his conditions, showed him the study table, and told him that he was leaving now and would meet him in the early morning. He also mentioned that if Samrat felt sleepy, he had a sleeping bag under the office desk that he could use. With this, Mr. Kaushik left, locking the door.

Samrat passionately started studying, and after two hours of continuous focus, he started feeling tired and thought about taking a break. He took his empty bottle to fill it from the water cooler, where he saw that Mr. Kaushik had forgotten to switch on the lights of that area. So, he used his phone's flashlight to walk down the stairs near the water cooler and started filling the bottle. Meanwhile, he felt that some sort of shadow moved away with tremendous speed, to which he didn't pay much attention and went to use the washroom. In the washroom, when he was washing his face, he heard a falling noise from upstairs in the studying area. When he reached there, he saw that a book had fallen from the top of the library shelf. He picked up the book and noticed that it was weird; the book did not have anything on its cover; it was just black without any name of the writer or publication. The book felt intimidating, but Samrat didn't pay attention and tried to keep the book where it belonged, but it had fallen from the top shelf where it was impossible to place it without a ladder. So, he kept it on his table and started studying again.

Again, after some time, the book fell from the table. Then, he picked up the book with curiosity and opened it. At first sight, the book looked like a compilation of some stories. He thought about reading any one story. Therefore, he began with a story named "Indeed Friendship".
