The moment Jacob's conscious returned to reality he became instantly angry and depressed. "How the fuck did I fall asleep before taking the pills?" he thought to himself. He slowly opened his eyes to see a rather large figure sitting at the foot of his small twin sized mattress. Before his brain could register the fear he felt , the figure spoke. "Hey Miles." The man said in a tone that did not match his large stature. Even sitting down Jacob could tell he was at least 6'6 or taller. But that wasn't what hit Jacob like a ton of bricks about what was happening right now. "What did you just call me?" Jacob said as he started to sit up. "That's the name your mother gave you on the day you were born isn't it? Miles Jacob Milton." The large man still hadn't turned around so Jacob could see his face. "My name is Jacob now and how did you get in here?" Brandon thought about standing up but didn't. He didn't know who this guy was, and the fact that he called him by the name his mother gave him left him frozen with confusion. "Yea that's right, you dropped the 'Miles' from your name before you moved to Cleveland." the man said as he slowly turned around, finally revealing his face. Jacob didn't recognize him. But that didn't matter right now. Besides the fact that this huge man was sitting at the foot of his bed, whoever he was he had information about Jacob that he hadn't shared with anybody in Cleveland besides his sponsor during his fifth step. The man smiled slightly. His eyes were surprisingly warm and welcoming. The fear instantly evaporated but Brandon still felt confused. The man spoke again "You know that still hurts your mom. She thought and still thinks that "Miles " is a beautiful name, and so do I. But because the name was given to her by someone you considered to be an alcoholic you got rid of it." Jacob couldn't believe what he was hearing. Who was this guy? How did he know that he had a different first name? But all Jacob could muster up to say was "How the did you get in my room?" he said softly. The man stood up, and Jacob could see that he was every bit of 7 feet tall. He turned to face Jacob as he leaned back on the dresser opposite the bed. "The real question is…" the man paused for what felt like dramatic effect only. Then he pointed at the prescription bottle next to Jacobs right shoulder. It was half hidden under one of his pillows, but the cap still showed. "Why take your own life?" Jacob was embarrassed now. He pushed the half showing prescription bottle under his pillow. He couldn't even unalive himself the right way. Sheesh. Jacob leaned back against his headboard and crossed his arms. He looked this mountain of a man straight in the eyes and simply said "I just feel like not living life gotta be better than this" Jacob could feel the tears forming and migrating to the corners of his eyes. But he continued to speak "I'm a real life bum. I can't stay sober, I can't keep a job, I can't take care of my daughter. Because I made a decision a long time ago that I cannot get away from, not only do I suffer everyday, but so do the people I love the most." The man looked at Jacob with deep concern. He could tell this man wasn't looking at him with judgment. And as weird as whatever this "thing" that was happening was, Jacob could feel that he was in no danger. "Who are you? Is this real? Am I dreaming?" The man sighed, still leaning back on the dresser facing Jacob he spoke "No, you are not sleeping or dreaming. This moment is really happening, I'm not a figment of your imagination if that's what you mean by "real". And to answer your first question, I don't really have a name per se. Not like how you have a name anyway. Miles or Jacob. I have a title. No name, just a title." Jacob looked at the man again, trying to find some semblance of recognition. But he couldn't. So he said " ok, what's your title?" The tall man simply said "The Lighthouse"
