Since Andrew left that day,we've kind of been talking non-stop. It's like he's opened up towards me. We'd chat all day,and sometimes even throughout the night. We'd talk about anything and everything. There wasn't one day that went by that we didn't talk, text or at least had some form of communication.
Three weeks have passed, and we've decided to have a surprise party for James;you know,a proper 'welcome home'. My mom said I could bring a friend or two,so I decided to invite Natalie and Andrew. Natalie was ecstatic, because I mean?she's Natalie. Andrew however?still remains to be seen, since I haven't gotten around to ask him. That's actually what I'm about to do right now.
It's after school. I scan the school yard, hoping I can spot him. "Hey girl, who are you looking for?" Natalie walks up to me. "Hey, Nat,thank goodness you're here. Help me look for Andrew. I want to invite him to James' surprise party," I say while I keep scanning the yard. "You sure James would like that?" she says while climbing on the platform next to us,trying to get a better view. I turn, looking at her,"What do you mean?". "Well,he's been picking you up everyday since he's been back? And let's just say I'm not blind,I've seen the way he looks at you," Natalie replies. "You're just seeing things," I say, trying to deny it. "So you're telling me you've never considered you two as a possibility?" She asks while putting her hand on her hip. "I guess at some point,I don't know?".
"FOUND HIM!" she says pointing at him in the distance. "Well where is he?" I ask, trying to stand on my toes, alsotrying get a better view. "He's by the oak tree next to the fence, with a?.". She doesn't complete the sentence. "With a what?" I ask anxiously. "With a?girl?does that bother you?" She looks at me with a sympathetic look. I zone out for a moment, then hear her asking again,"Lacey?". "No," I quickly reply, "he can do what he wants,we're not together,so it's not like I care?". "But you do?" she cuts me off. "I gotta go,James is probably waiting for me,"I say, quickly changing the subject,"you need help getting down?". "Nope,I've got it," Natalie replies, jumping off the platform."Okay, I'll see you tomorrow then,"I answer, running off to the car.
As soon as I arrive at the car,James opens the door, but before he could say anything,I get in,slamming the door behind me. "Well hello to you too," I hear him say from outside the car. He then walks to his side, opens the door and gets in. "Are you okay?" he asks concerned. "I'm fine,"I answer in an abrupt tone,"I just wanna get home."
The drive was pretty quiet on the way home. We finally park in front of the house, but as soon as I want to get out,he locks the doors. "What's wrong,Elle? You've been acting weird. Did something happen?" he asks with a concerning look. "It's nothing,James,I'm just tired."I say, hoping he'd leave me alone. We sit in the car for what seems like an eternity, until he finally says something."I wanna show you something," he says, starting the engine.
