The impact of Gloom-Weaver biting into the titan's collarbone sent fountains of superheated magma hissing into the desert night.
Pyroth-Karn howled—an ear-splitting, tectonic shriek of rage that caused the ancient stones of the Sphinx half a league away to shudder in their sandy cradle. The fifteen-pace elemental titan swung his massive left fist upward, attempting to swat the High Sovereign off his shoulder like an annoying insect.
Kaelen didn't retreat.
He wrenched his broadsword free, his eighty-foot shadow-wings bursting open to catch the scorching thermal updraft. With a savage, predatory snarl, Kaelen vaulted off the titan's burning neck, executing a midair spin that brought the dark-matter edge of his blade down across the monster’s reaching forearm.
The adamantine steel carved cleanly through three feet of solid basalt.
The titan’s colossal left hand severed at the wrist, tumbling into the boiling glass lake below with a concussive, fiery splash. Black volcanic blood gushed from the stump, scorching the desert sand into smoking tar.
"Impudent wretch!" Pyroth-Karn bellowed.
The titan raised his meteorite war-maul with his remaining hand, sweeping the burning hammer in a vicious, circular arc. A wave of white-hot brimstone fire, burning at four thousand degrees, erupted from the hammer's face, washing over Kaelen's airborne flank.
Kaelen snapped his shadow-wings forward into an impenetrable shroud of void-matter.
The hellfire crashed against his dark-matter barrier, hissing violently as the absolute-zero gravity absorbed the heat. But the raw, concussive kinetic force of the hammer's shockwave threw the High Sovereign back fifty paces through the air, sending him tumbling toward the cracked limestone tiers of the Second Pyramid.
"Kaelen!" Seraphina called out across their mate-bond, feeling the bruising kinetic shock rattle his immortal ribs.
I am whole, my Queen! his ragged, defiant growl echoed back in her mind. Aim for the furnace in his chest! His heart is an ancient sun-core corrupted by the Maw! Pierce the casing, and I will snuff the flame!
Seraphina didn't hesitate.
She folded her twenty-foot wings of starlight and dived toward the raging titan at terminal velocity. Her Sunblood roared in her veins, singing in harmony with the ancient solar wards of the Giza Plateau beneath her boots.
Pyroth-Karn saw her coming.
The cinder lord raised his smoking war-maul high above his horned skull, channeling the stolen energy of the Great Pyramid into the iron head until the weapon glowed like a dying red star.
"Burn, little moth!" the titan roared, preparing to bring the hammer down in an apocalyptic strike that would level the plateau.
"Not in my lifetime, rock-pile!" Seraphina snarled.
She drew her sunstone recurve bow to the very breaking point.
At her fingertips, she wove three distinct cosmic frequencies: the pure, blinding dawn of her ancestral Sunblood, the crackling azure lightning of the Heart of Susanoo, and the deep, anchoring void-chill of Kaelen's dark-matter bond.
The resulting arrow wasn't just magic—it was a tri-elemental spear of absolute celestial judgment.
Twang.
The bowstring sounded like a cracked whip of thunder.
The tri-colored arrow screamed across the sky, leaving a spiral trail of diamond sparks, azure lightning, and midnight shadows. It struck Pyroth-Karn dead center in his chest, piercing the ancient iron collar and punching straight through the basalt casing protecting his molten heart.
The titan froze in mid-swing.
A spiderweb of incandescent, blinding white light erupted from the puncture wound, racing outward through his cracked stone chest. Pyroth-Karn's burning eyes widened in disbelieving horror as his internal furnace began to overload, the celestial light purifying the corrupted magma within his veins.
"Now, Kaelen!" Seraphina shouted, banking hard to clear the blast radius.
From the shadow of the Second Pyramid, a living comet of midnight fury answered.
Kaelen launched himself from the limestone tiers, his shadow-wings leaving sonic booms in their wake. He crossed the sky in two heartbeats, descending upon the paralyzed titan like an avenging god of the void.
He brought Gloom-Weaver down in a two-handed vertical execution strike directly into the glowing breach in Pyroth-Karn's chest.
"Return to ash," Kaelen rumbled with sovereign finality.
He detonated an immense gravitational singularity inside the titan's heart.
The implosion crushed the molten furnace from within, snuffing out the four-thousand-degree fire in a fraction of a second. The basalt body of Pyroth-Karn turned gray, brittle, and lifeless.
With a deafening, crumbling roar that rolled across the sands, the fifteen-pace titan collapsed into a harmless mountain of shattered volcanic gravel and cooling pumice.
Kaelen landed lightly atop the highest pile of rubble, Gloom-Weaver sheathed at his back as the dust storm swirled around his broad shoulders.
Seraphina swooped down, her golden wings gently flaring as her boots touched down beside him.
Without breaking stride, Kaelen reached out, his arm wrapping around her waist and hauling her flush against his chest. His lips found hers in a hungry, breathless kiss that tasted of hot desert dust, ozone, and pure, electric victory.
When he finally pulled away, his silver eyes were alight with fierce, predatory satisfaction.
"One more down, little sun," he murmured, his hand gently resting over the curve of her hip.
Seraphina caught her breath, leaning her forehead against his chest plate.
Then, she turned her head toward the summit of the Great Pyramid.
The Dread-Spire at the apex was pulsing violently. A beam of deep crimson light had begun shooting straight down into the interior shaft, illuminating the entrance to the subterranean tunnels.
"The titan was just the guardian," Seraphina said, her eyes narrowing as she felt the ancient wards humming from the deep stone. "The Maw's high sorcerers are already inside the King's Chamber. They're preparing to sacrifice the solar dynamo."
Kaelen’s jaw hardened, his hand dropping to the hilt of his broadsword.
"Then let us go into the tomb," Kaelen growled, "and kill whatever is waiting in the dark."
