The narrow, ascending passage of the Great Pyramid was suffocatingly hot, smelling of dry limestone, copper rot, and ancient dead air.
Two thousand years of tourist pathways and metal handrails had been stripped away by the invading Ashen Maw, replaced by creeping veins of necrotic black glass that oozed dark matter along the angled ceiling.
Seraphina and Kaelen moved swiftly up the steep incline of the Grand Gallery.
The twenty-eight-foot-high corbelled hall of polished granite, which had baffled human archaeologists for centuries, was now illuminated by the soft, radiant glow of Seraphina’s aura. Her twenty-foot wings of starlight were drawn tightly against her back to avoid grazing the narrow stone walls, her white sunstone daggers drawn and humming with superheated plasma.
Beside her, Kaelen moved with the silent, predatory efficiency of a stalking panther.
His eighty-foot shadow-wings remained tucked into his pocket-space, his hand resting on the pommel of Gloom-Weaver. His molten silver eyes cut through the supernatural gloom, scanning every shadowed niche and corbel stone for hidden wards.
"These dimensions are too precise," Seraphina whispered, her paramedic mind analyzing the acoustic frequencies echoing off the granite blocks. "The rise of the ceiling... the specific angle of the incline... it isn't an architectural ramp. It’s an etheric wave-guide."
"It was designed to channel the harmonic resonance of the Nile Leyline straight into the upper chamber," Kaelen confirmed in a low rumble, his boots stepping over the charred, mummified remains of four Ashen Maw cultists who had triggered the original security wards. "When my ancestors visited this realm five thousand years ago, the first Pharaohs were mortal high-priests of the Sunblood lineage. They built this monument to maintain the Veil's southern seal."
They reached the top of the Grand Gallery, squeezing through the low granite antechamber and emerging into the King's Chamber.
The chamber was thirty-four feet long, seventeen feet wide, and walled with massive, monolithic blocks of red granite. In the center of the room sat the ancient, hollow sarcophagus—cut from a single block of solid red stone.
Hovering three feet above the sarcophagus was the true prize: the Solar Dynamo of Ra.
It was a jagged, blinding polyhedral sphere of pure, crystallized solar fire, three feet in diameter, spinning in perpetual, silent levitation. Yet right now, the dynamo was being desecrated.
Four Abyssal Arch-Lichs draped in ceremonial robes of blackened linen were kneeling around the sarcophagus. From their withered, clawed hands extended four thick cords of weeping, corrupted soul-iron that had pierced the outer shell of the solar sphere.
The crimson beam from the Dread-Spire on the pyramid's summit was pouring straight through the ceiling shaft, forcing dark matter into the dynamo's golden core.
At the head of the sarcophagus stood High Priestess Nephira—a preserved, undead sorceress of the fallen Nilotic Dynasties who had pledged her soul to the Void-Mother during the Third Cataclysm. Her hollow, sunken eye sockets burned with sickly emerald spite-fire, her withered lips curling into a triumphant hiss as she saw the sovereigns enter.
"The Sun-Child returns to her ancestors' tomb," Nephira rasped, her voice like papyrus scraping across dried bone. "Too late to save the flame. In sixty seconds, the Dynamo will invert. The solar network connecting Cairo to the Nile Basin will ignite every mortal soul in this desert into a weeping pyre for the Maw!"
"Cut the cords!" Seraphina commanded, surging across the granite floor like a bolt of dawn.
"I have the priests," Kaelen roared, drawing Gloom-Weaver as he charged into the fray.
The room erupted into chaos.
High Priestess Nephira raised an ancient, blackened scepter of carved lapis lazuli, channeling a concentrated blast of necrotic rot straight toward Seraphina’s chest.
Seraphina didn't flinch.
She vaulted off the edge of the granite sarcophagus, her twenty-foot wings bursting open in a dazzling fan of starlight that deflected the beam against the ceiling. In midair, she spun and hurled both sunstone daggers with surgical, pinpoint precision.
The white-hot blades severed two of the soul-iron cords holding the Solar Dynamo.
The severed cables snapped violently, whipping against the walls and releasing an ear-splitting wave of pure, unfiltered solar resonance that made the monolithic granite blocks ring like giant bells.
Across the chamber, Kaelen moved with terrifying, god-tier brutality.
Gloom-Weaver flared with abyssal lightning as he swept through the four kneeling Arch-Lichs. In the span of two heartbeats, the High Sovereign severed their withered torsos from their legs with two ruthless, horizontal cleaves. Before their remains could touch the stone, Kaelen crushed their souls into ash with a localized pulse of dark-matter gravity.
He spun on his heel, his silver eyes locking onto Nephira.
"Your dynasty ended five millennia ago, corpse," Kaelen growled, lunging forward with his broadsword raised for the execution.
Nephira screeched, thrusting her scepter downward.
Instead of defending herself, she drove the corrupted lapis head straight into the remaining two cords anchored to the Solar Dynamo.
"Then die with it!" she screamed.
The Solar Dynamo fractured.
A blinding, cataclysmic cascade of unstable thermonuclear solar plasma erupted from the crystal core, expanding outward in a growing sphere of five-thousand-degree light that threatened to vaporize the entire King’s Chamber and level the Great Pyramid from within.
