Chapter Three: The Final Choice
Day slowly gave way to night. The rain still refused to leave the city, and the streets, bathed in the yellow glow of the streetlights, looked dreamlike. Armin and Sara sat in that same small café, their cups of coffee long cold, and the silence between them heavier than ever.
Armin took a deep breath and said:
- "Sara… I don't want to lose you again. But I understand that for years, you had to find your own way."
Sara placed her hand on his, hands that still carried the warmth and safety of old memories.
- "Armin… I never forgot you either. But life has taken us down two different paths."
For a moment, they were both silent. Their hearts beat in unison, yet their minds were tangled in fear and doubt.
Armin lowered his head, his voice trembling:
- "If you take my hand now, I promise we can build anything you want. Nothing will ever come between us again."
Sara looked out the window. The rain danced against the glass like a thousand memories still alive. Then she whispered softly:
- "Armin… some loves are beautiful because they are short and unattainable. Maybe we are meant to be the same…"
Armin's heart broke. But in that moment, he understood that sometimes love, even when it's not enough, must be set free.
Sara gave a bittersweet smile and picked up her cup.
- "Wherever you are, I will always love you. But this time, we must go our separate ways."
Armin lowered his head and let the rain hide his tears. Sara quietly walked out of the café, with the same trembling steps and the red scarf that held all the memories.
He stood there, watching until she disappeared from sight. His heart ached, yet within that pain was something beautiful: a love that had never truly ended, even if their lives had taken different paths.
And on that rainy night, Armin realized that some loves remain alive forever… even when they cannot be held.
