To Daniel,
On Tuesday night at 7pm, I asked you to go see a movie with me. You are always very punctual, except when it comes to me. One hour before the movie started, I sent you a message, but you didn't reply. I sent another message when the movie had been playing for 10 minutes, and you finally responded with: "I am busy, don't wait for me."
This isn't the first time you have stood me up. As I sat in the dark theatre, watching the highly acclaimed movie "Our Times," I couldn't help but feel disappointed and alone. The young couple sitting next to me were already cuddled up and enjoying the movie. When the emotional climax of the movie arrived, I couldn't hold back my tears. I fumbled around in the dark, trying to find my phone to call you, and tearfully said: "I want to see you."
After the movie ended, I went to the garage to get my car, a bright red Beetle. In a fit of frustration, I took out a screw from the car boot and angrily hit the tire. Then I called you and said: "My car tire is flat." You were silent for a moment before asking: "Where?" When you finally arrived, I had been standing in the dimly lit garage for an hour. Your Jeep pulled up next to me, and you quickly got out to check on my Beetle. I was afraid, but I tried to stay calm as you inspected the tire. After a few moments, you glanced at me, and I felt so embarrassed that I wanted to hide my face. You seemed like a god, while I was just a little monkey, easily seen through by you. I felt like a child who had done something wrong, and I remained silent as I followed you home.
After I finished bathing, I found you reading on the couch. I came to your side and said: "The movie today made me cry so much. I can't believe I saw Hush in person. It brought back so many memories of our youth, spending time together in school and at the canteen." Finally, I asked you: "Daniel, do you have any special memories?" You didn't answer, but you smiled gently and said: "Go to sleep, we have to work tomorrow."
I watched your face in the moonlight, and even though you were making a funny face in your sleep, it didn't take away from your charm. It's strange, I have looked at your face countless times, and I never get tired of it. It's like I have done so many things to get your attention, just like I did when we were in school. And even now, Daniel, even though we are married.
