Title: Bound by Blood, Broken by Pride
*Chapter 8: Crossroads of Desire and Duty*
The sun cast a golden hue over the Frederick estate as Charles sat across from his father in the study. The room, adorned with mahogany shelves and the scent of aged books, provided a serene backdrop to their conversation.
"Charles," his father began, swirling the amber liquid in his glass, "I've been observing your management of the company. Your decisions have been commendable."
Charles leaned back, a hint of pride in his eyes. "Thank you, Dad. I've been trying to uphold the family's legacy."
His father nodded, a smile playing on his lips. "It's evident. The way you've handled the recent projects, especially the Lagos expansion, shows maturity."
Charles glanced at his watch. "Dad, I have an appointment. I need to meet someone."
"Of course," his father replied, standing up. "Just ensure you're safe."
Charles exited the study, his mind already on Queen Preshido.
Driving through the city streets, Charles's thoughts were a whirlwind. Upon reaching Queen Preshido's residence, he dialed her number.
Moments later, the gate opened to reveal Queen Preshido, radiant in a flowing burgundy dress. Her smile was both inviting and enigmatic.
"Charles," she greeted, approaching the car.
He stepped out, opening the door for her. "You look stunning."
They drove to an upscale eatery, the ambiance intimate and the lighting soft. Over glasses of wine and gourmet dishes, their conversation flowed effortlessly.
"I must admit," Charles said, swirling his wine, "I misjudged you."
Queen Preshido laughed, a melodic sound. "And I thought you were just another arrogant heir."
Their laughter intertwined, signaling a newfound connection.
Meanwhile, at Nancy's home, the atmosphere was festive. Nancy and her mother sat amidst colorful fabrics and wedding catalogs.
"I think this shade of blue would be perfect for the bridesmaids," her mother suggested.
Nancy nodded, her eyes gleaming. "And gold accents for the decor."
her cousin, Sara, entered, carrying a tray of refreshments.
"The preparations are coming along beautifully," she remarked.
The trio continued discussing the upcoming traditional marriage, their excitement palpable.
As evening descended, Charles escorted Preshido back to her home. At the gate, he hesitated.
"Come in for a while," she invited.
"I should head home," he replied.
"Just for a moment," she insisted, her gaze persuasive.
Relenting, Charles followed her inside. The mansion's grandeur was evident, with ornate chandeliers and plush furnishings. In her room, she led him to the bed, placing a gentle kiss on his lips.
"Stay," she whispered.
my dad is not home.
He hesitated, then nodded, the night unfolding in a tapestry of shared moments.
Meanwhile, at the mansion,I stepped out of the kitchen, wiping my hands on my apron. I approached Osaho, the gate man, who was leaning against the gatepost.
"Osaho, you need to fix that squeaky hinge," I remarked.
He grinned. "I'll get to it, Chioma. Maybe after you agree to marry me."
I laughed, shaking my head. "Keep dreaming, Osaho."
A car horn interrupted their banter. Osaho straightened, peering through the gate.
"It's Master Ekene," he announced, opening the gate promptly.
Ekene drove in, nodding at Osaho. "Evening."
"Welcome back, sir," Osaho responded.
Inside, I greeted Ekene.
"Are my parents home?" he inquired.
"No, sir. They haven't returned yet," I replied.
He ascended the staircase, disappearing into his room.
Back at Queen Preshido's residence, dawn's first light crept through the curtains. Charles stirred, realizing his surroundings. He sat up, gently disentangling himself.
"Leaving so soon?" Preshido murmured, still half-asleep.
"I need to get home," he replied, dressing quickly.
"Stay a bit longer," she pleaded.
He kissed her forehead. "Next time."
Exiting quietly, Charles drove home. At the mansion, I had dozed off on the sitting room couch, The creak of the door stirred me.
"Master Charles," I greeted, rubbing my eyes.
Without a word, he walked past me, his expression unreadable. I watched him ascend the stairs, a sigh escaping my lips.
Locking the door, I retreated to my room, the event of that moment weighing heavily on my mind.
