Title: Bound by Blood, Broken by Pride
*Chapter 7: Entangled Desires*
Queen Prashido lounged on her velvet chaise, the soft hum of classical music filling the room. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, casting golden patterns on the marble floor. She sipped her tea thoughtfully, her mind replaying the encounter with Charles.
*"He's undeniably handsome,"* she mused, twirling a strand of her hair. *"But that arrogance... it's both infuriating and intriguing."*
Just then, the front door creaked open. Her ears perked up. A familiar presence filled the house before the footsteps even echoed in the hallway.
"Daddy?" she called, already smiling.
From the corridor, a deep voice answered, "My queen, are you not going to come and welcome your father properly?"
She rushed out into the living room, arms wide. "Daddy!"
Ugezu J. Ugezu stood at the entrance, his traditional cap slightly tilted, eyes tired but warm with pride. He embraced her tightly, holding her like the little girl he once used to carry.
"You're glowing," he said, stepping back to look at her. "Something happened?"
Queen Prashido smirked. "Let's just say… I met someone interesting."
Ugezu chuckled. "Your type of 'interesting' always comes with fire."
"I know," she replied, walking with him inside. "But this one… this one might just match me."

Meanwhile, at the Frederick residence, Ekene sat on the couch beside his mother, both of them occasionally glancing at the wall clock. The soft hum of the ceiling fan and the rustle of the newspaper she held were the only sounds in the sitting room.
"She said she'd arrive by noon," his mother said, adjusting her reading glasses.
"She's never late," Ekene replied with a smile. "I'm sure she's close."
Just then, a knock came from the front door.
Ekene sprang to his feet, smoothing down his shirt before opening the door.
There she stood - Nancy, graceful as ever, wearing a soft peach dress, a matching handbag resting on her arm. Her face lit up the moment she saw him.
"My queen," Ekene said warmly, leaning in to give her a gentle peck on the cheek.
Nancy blushed lightly. "Good afternoon, dear."
"Come in," he said, guiding her in. "My mother's waiting."
As they walked in, Ekene turned to his mom. "Mum… this is Nancy."
Nancy curtsied slightly with respect, her smile kind and sincere. "Good afternoon, Ma."
Mrs. Frederick looked up, her expression softening instantly. "Nancy. So you're the one who's been stealing my son's heart." She rose and came to embrace her. "You're welcome, my dear."
Nancy beamed. "Thank you so much, Ma. It's an honour to finally meet you."
Ekene watched the two women with contentment in his eyes. Something about the moment felt just right - peaceful, warm, and full of promise.
"Nancy!" Ma rita exclaimed, embracing her warmly. "It's so good to see you."
Nancy laughed, returning the hug. "I've missed you all. The house feels like home."
I stepped out of the kitchen, wiping my hands on my apron. "Welcome, Miss Nancy. It's lovely to have you back."
She smiled at me. "Thank you, Chioma. It smells delicious in here."
Marita turned to me. "Chioma, could you please check on the stew? It should be just about ready."
"Of course," I replied, heading back to the kitchen, the warmth of the reunion lingering in the air.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, I was slowly stirring stew, trying to keep my hands from shaking. My back ached with every breath. Nancy came in quietly.
"Chioma," she said gently. "Are you alright?"
I forced a smile. "I'm fine, ma. Thank you."
She studied me. "Don't lie for anyone."
I lowered my eyes. "Yes, ma."
Nancy sighed and stepped back. "If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here."
"Thank you, ma," I whispered.

That evening, Charles got a text from Queen Preshido.
*"Enjoyed today. Let's hang out soon again."*
He stared at the message for a while before replying: *"Definitely. Let's plan something."*
Then, out loud to no one in particular, he said, "This girl... she's not ordinary."
Downstairs, Sir Frederick and Lady Frederick were seated, sipping tea, when Ekene joined them. He looked relaxed in a polo shirt and joggers.
"I heard Nancy came around to meet with your mum, and about your wedding plans," Sir Frederick said with a proud smile. "We're ready when you are."
Ekene nodded. "We want something simple, but elegant."
Lady Frederick clapped her hands excitedly. "We'll take care of everything."
Then her face turned thoughtful. "Where is Charles?"
"Upstairs, I think," Ekene replied.
"I need to speak with him later," his father added.
They all smiled again, unaware that upstairs, Charles was staring at his phone with Queen Preshido's picture on the screen and a strange glint in his eye.
And in my room, I sat curled up in bed, wondering if this house - so full of noise and smiles - was still safe for me.
