This is the story of how She became unequivocally attached to a man that came out of the Fog and into her life.
The Beginning
They began communicating in October and from the moment they said hello to each other she knew that he would be some kind of different. He worked in the early morning before the sun even rose. It was perfect. She had the worst sleep schedule and was awake when he would rise. They would chat from that moment until they would fall asleep.
To her it was strange because she would never hold such long conversations with strangers that she met on the internet. Most of the time she would end up bored and no longer even acknowledge the strangers who messaged her.
But he was different. She didn't know what was different about him but she was officially intrigued and ready to learn more about him.
She was in a relationship that was failing and she just needed some peace. She hadn't been happy in months and she had no idea what would help. She had been Spiraling into a dark place.
For a month and a half he was there. He became the person she looked forward to hearing from the most in a day. He was the one person that she could vent to. He was a stranger. Someone who could leave at any moment and it would be fine. She spoke to him about her life unfiltered. Told him the good and the bads of her day.
Time to meet
It was a Cold and beautiful December morning. Her and her childrens father had been fighting for the last few weeks. Everything was a fight. She woke up and decided that she was going to video call a friend and vent. Well while video calling she ended up gettting intoxicated on some, not so great, Rum. This feeling of drunkeness made her want to go sit by the water and smoke some cigarettes. So thats exactly what she did.
She didnt know any good spots to park to just sit and relax at the water so she had asked him if he could recommend any. Of course he knew of a few spots. She chose the one that was closest to her home.
As she got there the Sun faded and the fog began to roll in. She didn't care. She just needed a moment. Just one single moment to gain clarity and figure out why her life had turned out this way. She didnt understand how her relationship had become such a shit show. She was no longer happy and no longer had any compassion to give towards the father of her kids and that was a problem.
Time had been slowly fading by and the fog was getting thicker and thicker. It was 38 degrees outside and she had just been sitting there in her car for about 3 hours at this point. Even though she was about to leave, She reached out to the one person who could help calm her mind and told him that she was still out. He asked her how much longer she was going to be there. Before she could even respond she recieved another message saying he would be there in 10 minutes. So she stayed. She could feel herself getting excited to meet this stranger that she had vented so many of her days to. He had known what she was going through and was in a similar situation. He had showed no signs of judging her. He just seemed different and their conversations weren't boring and mundane. They were effortless.
She had gotten lost in her thoughts and then There he was. His white truck emerged from the fog. She had gotten out of her car and was waiting to see him. There he was. She couldnt help but smile from ear to ear. He embraced her in the Tightest most healing hug that she had felt in awhile. Howd he know she so desperately needed that kind of hug. Everything she had been feeling all day faded and she found it. Her moment of peace. This moment with him.
As he embraced her he said "Its really you." with a big smile on his face.
They stood outside of their vehicles discussing anything and everything that had came to mind. The fog was thick and the air was cold. The sky was now dark and they had filled any space between them with laughter and good conversation. She needed this moment so bad, and didnt even realize it.
She realized the time and knew that she should be getting home soon to tuck her kids in to bed. They ended their conversation, Traded yet another tight and healing hug and they got in their vehicles. She was Freezing. She got prepared to drive home and realized she accomplished what she came to do. Find her moment of peace. And it was Him. She drove away with a smile on her face and her heart felt a little lighter. She knew the father of her children wouldn't like that she met up with this Stranger. But she didn't care. She was thankful for the conversation and laughter and she wouldnt let him ruin that.
It had been about a week since she met Him at the waterfront. She couldnt stop thinking about the amount of peace that he brought her with a simple hug and some laughter. She thought maybe if she could just spend a little more time with him that she would understand this.
It was the middle of the week and she had been going crazy being in the house. She had been a stay at home mom who had been neglecting herself. She decided she was going to get out. She needed to get out of the house. He had told her that there was a nearby coffee shop that she could sit and write at. That sounded exactly like the type of peace that she needed to just get away for an hour or so. She made her way to the coffee house at around 6. When she got there she learned that they closed at 7. No Problem that was more than enough time to write and enjoy a hot chocolate.
She had told him her plans and invited him to join her for a coffee if he had the time. She wasnt expecting him to show up, but wanted him to know that he was invited. She craved his peace. She didnt understand the familiarity that she felt with him. He seemed like such a mystery to her. They had talked every day since the first moment he said hello. She still wasnt bored with him. If anything she was more intrigued than ever.
She ordered a hot chocolate and a cookie to bring back to her kids, and she sat and wrote. With music in her ears she poured her heart out on paper. It was 645 and she had given up on the idea that he was going to be showing up. But then her phone lit up and it was him. He was asking her how much longer she would be out. And all she could think was "As long as it takes you to get here." But she couldnt say that. Instead she told him that the coffee house closed soon and she would be leaving soon. He was on his way.
5 Minutes before closing time and she began to feel disappointed that she wasnt going to see him. "Next time" she thought. She continued writing and all of the sudden there was a tap on her shoulder and there he was. His smiling face instantly gave her a smile. He walked away and got himself some Froyo. "How weird" she thought. It was freezing outside and he chose to get froyo. How peculiar, how different. He paid for his Froyo and they walked outside. He had parked close to her car and so they stood chatting. about how their day was. Even though they had already spent the day talking. She needed to get home before it was time for the kids to go to bed. He gave her a big hug and then they parted ways. She was satisfied that she got to see him. She craved his peace. His presence. She still didnt understand how the simple fact of his presence brought so much stillness to her world. She couldnt help but wonder if hugging her had the same affect on him. She let him know that she got home safely and they continued chatting as if they didnt just see each other and say goodnight. She thanked him for coming and seeing her and told him how refreshing his presence was.
He replied simply. "Today when i hugged you it made everyone and everything disappear." Reading those words made her heart skip a beat. What was happening. How did this man bring so much peace to her life. How was he able to make her feel this way. What did she even feel to begin with. She needed to understand that before anything. All she could think was "10 Minutes of chatting and smiling at each other. 1 minute hug of peace. And everything else faded away." Wild.
After a few days had gone by they had still communicated every day. She was still trying to understand the way that he made her feel. How could a stranger bring so much peace. they had truly hardly known anything about each other. She was in a relationship and knew that she couldnt be anything more with this man. At least not until she figured out her shit show at home.
She woke up that day feeling incredibly sick. She had decided that she needed to go to the hospital. She was going back and forth between having the chills and sweating profusely, and she had a Fever of 104.6. She knew that she needed to get to the hospital. Her kids were sleeping and she definitely couldn't drive. So she waited. She wanted to be comforted. she wanted to be held. Except for in this moment she didnt want to be touched or held by her childrens father. She wanted it to be Him. The stranger she started chatting with just about 2 months ago. She wanted to feel his peace. His presence. So she decided now was the time to message him. She told him good morning and that she was going to be going to the hospital. He immediately showed concern. She couldnt tell him that she wanted him to come hold her. They were definitely not anywhere near that in their friendship. Is that what it would be called?
A friendship.
She got to the hospital and he offered to come see her. She couldnt do that. It was such a sweet gesture and she definitely would have loved it. She knew that would not be a good move for her relationship and she wasnt prepared to deal with the fallout that would cause. Life had quickly gotten complicated. She had talked to him everyday. From the moment she woke up until they went to sleep. She wouldnt have had it any other way. He had became her safe place to vent.
At the hospital she discovered she had the Flu. Thankfully it was the weekend and her kids dad would be home to take care of the kids and house so she could rest. After 2 days of rest and medication, She had felt almost fully back to her self. He had been sweet to her all weekend, checking in to make sure she was doing ok and getting rest.
About a week had gone by since they had seen each other last and weirdly enough she has missed just being around him. When he was around she could let her guard down, she could just be free. She hadnt been able to be this version of herself in a very long time. It felt so good to just not worry about judgement and if he did judge her that was okay. He was just a stranger.
They met up at the PBG to play pool. Just a hangout she thought. Nothing would happen. They got there and sat at the bar. He pulled out the barstool for her to sit. She thought "I guess chivalry isn't dead." He ordered a Budlight and the bartender asked her what she wanted. She had no idea. Did she even want to drink around him....
She told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a shot that was so sweet and delicious. Peanut butter whiskey. Something she would have NEVER picked, but it was amazing. They went and found a pool table and played a few rounds just enjoying being around each other. He ordered another beer and another shot for her. After they finished playing pool they went outside and had a cigarette. They said their goodbyes with a hug and parted ways. She thought it was so weird that she was able to just enjoy being around him.
After this encounter with him and realizing she wanted to spend more time with she decided once a week. Once a week would be enough and she wouldnt be jeopardizing her relationship with the guy that she was with. It would be fine. Sure he irritated her, but they could get through it.
It was Finally her Birthday weekend. Christmas went well with the Kids and with her family and she had gotten some cool stuff. She still couldnt help but think of the Man she had met and played pool with. She had decided she was going to go down to see some friends out of town. He asked her if she wanted to meet for breakfast on her way out of town. "Of Course" She thought.
It was DUMPING rain out and he suggested a place near by the Freeway entrance. How convenient. She showed up and it was this incredibly cute cabin. He wasn't there yet, so she sat in her car and listened to music. Why was she nervous. That didnt make any sense to her. He arrived and greeted her with a smile. They walked into the Cabin and was seated at a booth by a window. She couldnt help but picture sitting in a cabin in the middle of no where with him. They chatted about what their plans were for the weekend and whatever else had came to mind. They were enjoying each others company so much that the waitress had to come back a few times to see if they were ready to order. They finally decided what to eat and ordered their food.
The food had came and they both ate hardly any of their food. Consumed with conversation and stolen glances. It was time for them both to head out as they both had places to be. He walked her to her car and then remembered he had made her something for her birthday. He ran to his car and came back with a handmade gift. It was so sweet. "THE REARVIEW MIRROR IS SMALLER THAN THE WINDSHIELD"
He told her "I will let you determine what that means." They hugged and parted ways. She couldn't help but smile. How sweet he was. This Darling man.
She drove to see her friends not wanting to share how her morning went with any of them. That moment was for her. She replayed her time with him over and over in her head. She had met up with a few friends that day and then drove back home late at night.
New years Eve.
Even though things had been rocky between her and the father of her children, she had booked an event for them to go to. Her parents had the kids for the next 2 nights and she was excited to share a moment with him. She had been nothing but irritated with him for what seemed like months. Was he hearing her when she told him that she wasn't happy and needed something to change. This was the moment that she needed. She needed him to just show her that he could be the guy she wanted. They went to the light show. It was beautiful. She felt like she could fall in love with him again, but he didnt even hold her hand. Was he feeling just as unhappy as she was?
After the light show she wanted to give him another chance to love her. To show her that he was there and that he was the one. So they went to go drive through some christmas lights. While looking at the lights they saw fireworks. And chased them. She loved that. She couldnt wait to be under the lights with him. They found an area to park and sat in the back of the car... and nothing. Not even a kiss. About half way through the night she got a message. It was Him. That wonderful stranger. He was also there at the firework display. "Come steal me away from this" she thought. What a scene that would cause. But in this moment she really didnt care. It was about 930 and she was just ready to go home and go to sleep. So she did.
New Years day.
She was upset about how the night went and just didn't understand. So she thought "Okay, one more chance" She invited her kids dad to go to the arcade bar. A place that he had mentioned a few times. They got a few drinks played some pinball and listened to music. It was a good night. When they got home she said to him "We arent happy, Something needs to change". After a good long conversation a few hours of sleep they decided that it would be best to cohabitate, and figure out what their happy was. It clearly wasnt each other. And that marked the end of their relationship. She was okay with it.
A few days went by and she wanted to see Him. The strange man that she had began chatting every day with just a few months prior. It was so odd to her because for 2 and a half months they chatted every single day, all day. It had been a month since they had met in person and she no longer had to keep things safe. If something happened between them that was okay. They decided to meet at the PBG to play some pool. She told him this time was on her. They each got a shot of some peanut butter whiskey and they each got a beer. Budlight for him and Heineken for her. This time felt different. It was a Friday night and the bar was full of people drinking away the week.
They walked over to the table that they played at the first night they were here. It was the only table available. She couldnt help but think that it was Kismet that this was the only one. They played a few rounds of pool sharing stolen glances. Every once in awhile he would place his hands on her lower back reveiling how soft his hands were. They had never touched before other than hugging. His skin felt so good on hers. It gave her butterflies and made her smile.
The night was coming to an end so she paid the tab and he walked her to her car. What a gentle man. She wasnt ready for the night to end so she lit a cigarette and offered him one. Hoping that he would stay for just a moment longer. He lit the cigarette she offered even though he preffered menthol. He leaned against her car and they chatted about anything that kept them in this moment a little longer.
He reached out and grabbed her hand and danced with her in the parking lot. No music. No one around. This moment was for them. She felt like they were the only ones around. She leaned against her car to take a moment and he came in for a hug. He put one hand on under her shirt on her back and the other held the back of her neck. This was the moment she wanted so badly to happen. His hands on her body felt electric. Their lips touched and they were the only ones in the world. Everything around them dissappeared. No sounds. No lights. Nothing. Just her and him in this moment. His lips were so soft and his touch was so gentle. When the kiss ended she wanted more. She wanted to feel his lips on hers for as long as the night would allow. She couldnt help but smile. All she wanted in that moment was to be wrapped up in him. To have his hands all over her and to keep kissing him.
After a few stolen kisses, a bit more dancing, Laughing about aliens and lots of blushing. They said their goodnights and went their seperate ways. She couldnt help but smile her whole way home. What was happening. How could he make her feel this way. She just wanted to spend more time with him. But once a week was good. Nice and slow. She was excited to see where this journey would take them and was already excited to see him again.
