Detective Milo Jenkins stood on the rooftop of the bakery, the night sky glowing with city lights. Below, parked like a villain's throne room on wheels, was Sam's Sandwich Studio Food Truck. The smell of grilled cheese and impending danger filled the air.
"This is it," Milo whispered, adjusting his trench coat dramatically.
Mrs. Pennyworth, armed with her trusty rolling pin, nodded. "Let's toast this croissant."
They descended the fire escape, creeping toward the truck. The back doors were wide open, revealing shelves stacked with stolen sandwiches - BLTs, subs, paninis, all lit up like jewels in a museum.
And there, at the center, was Sam. He stood in a spotless chef's coat, twirling a bread knife like a fencing foil. In his other hand, he cradled the Mega Sandwich, now wrapped in gold foil.
"Bravo, Detective," Sam said, smiling slyly. "Few have made it this far."
"Put the sandwich down, Sam," Milo said, stepping forward. "This ends tonight."
Sam laughed, a smooth, villainous laugh. "Do you know why I steal sandwiches, Detective? Because no one respects them! They rush through lunch breaks, wolfing down a masterpiece in seconds. I give sandwiches the stage they deserve!"
"That's not respect," Milo said, tightening his grip on his magnifying glass. "That's theft. And worse, it's pretentious."
Sam's eyes narrowed. "Then you leave me no choice."
He lunged forward, and chaos erupted. Milo blocked the bread knife with his magnifying glass, sparks flying. Mrs. Pennyworth swung her rolling pin like a baseball bat, knocking a tray of sliders into Sam's face.
Sam stumbled back, slipping on a rogue pickle spear, but he wasn't done yet. He vaulted onto the counter, sandwich in hand. "You'll never catch me, Jenkins!" he shouted, leaping toward the open door -
Only to land directly on a patch of mayonnaise Milo had strategically squirted earlier. Sam skidded, flailed, and landed flat on his back, the Mega Sandwich flying through the air in slow motion.
Milo dove and caught it like a heroic wide receiver. "Got it!" he cried.
Sam groaned, defeated. "Foiled… by condiments…"
Minutes later, the police arrived, hauling Sam away in mustard-stained handcuffs. Mrs. Pennyworth clutched the Mega Sandwich like a newborn. "You did it, Detective," she said, smiling proudly.
Milo dusted himself off. "Another day, another deli drama solved."
The next morning, the Mega Sandwich was proudly displayed at the Great Gourmet Gala. Mrs. Pennyworth won the Golden Spatula, the crowd cheering as Milo stood in the back, quietly enjoying a simple ham-and-cheese.
When asked how he felt about the whole ordeal, Milo simply said, "Justice is best served on rye."
