Her eyes widened in disbelief. The man who had disappeared from her life had suddenly returned.
For a few moments, nobody spoke. The living room fell into complete silence.
Marcello was the first to break it.
“Mr. Moretti, please forgive us for what happened earlier. My daughter didn’t mean to disrespect you. I sincerely apologize on her behalf.”
Dante said nothing. His cold eyes moved across the room before finally settling on Isabella.
She lowered her gaze immediately.
Why is he here?
After disappearing for so long, why has he come back now?
Her heart pounded painfully against her chest.
Four months.
She had spent four months trapped with this dangerous man. She had finally returned to her family, hoping she could begin a new life. Now, looking at him again, she could only imagine the worst.
Has he come to kill me?
Sofia suddenly stepped forward, wiping away her tears.
“Isabella, I’m sorry,” she said in a trembling voice. “I should have behaved like a proper sister. I never wanted things to become this bad.”
She lowered her head and pretended to cry.
“I’m sorry. I really am.”
Before anyone could respond, Sofia turned and hurried upstairs.
“Sofia!” Veronica called, immediately following her daughter. “Wait, sweetheart!”
Marcello watched them leave before turning back to Dante with an uncomfortable smile.
“Please, Mr. Moretti. Forget all this unpleasantness. You must be hungry. I’ll arrange dinner immediately.”
Dante gave him a brief nod.
“Do whatever you want.”
Marcello hurried away to make the arrangements.
Isabella remained where she was, unable to move.
Dante had returned.
And she had no idea what he intended to do to her.
