The safe house was unusually quiet.
For the first time in weeks, there were no gunshots outside, no urgent phone calls, no explosions in the distance.
Only the soft sound of rain against the windows.
Victoria stood by the fireplace, still wearing the sling that supported her injured arm. She watched the flames dance across the logs, lost in thought.
Behind her, Emily entered the room.
"I've been looking for you."
Victoria smiled without turning around.
"You found me."
Emily walked closer until they stood only inches apart.
"You've been carrying the weight of everyone else for so long."
Victoria let out a quiet breath.
"I don't know how to stop."
"You don't have to carry it alone anymore."
Victoria finally turned to face her.
For a moment, neither woman spoke.
Emily gently brushed her fingers against Victoria's cheek.
Victoria closed her eyes at the touch.
"No one's ever looked at me the way you do," she whispered.
Emily smiled.
"Because no one else sees the woman I see."
A tear escaped down Victoria's cheek.
Emily wiped it away with her thumb.
"You don't have to be the boss every second."
"You can just be Victoria."
Victoria laughed softly.
"I almost forgot who she was."
"I'll remind you."
Emily leaned in slowly, giving Victoria every chance to step away.
Instead, Victoria closed the distance between them.
Their kiss was slow and unhurried, filled with everything they had been unable to say during weeks of danger and loss.
When they finally pulled apart, they rested their foreheads together.
"I was terrified I'd lose you on that island," Victoria admitted.
"I know."
"And when you were shot..."
Emily gently took Victoria's hand.
"I'm still here."
"And I plan to stay."
Victoria smiled.
"So do I."
Emily wrapped her arms carefully around Victoria, mindful of her injured shoulder.
They stood together in silence, holding each other as the rain continued outside.
For the first time since they had met, neither of them was thinking about Volkov.
Neither was thinking about the war.
They were simply two women who had found love in the middle of chaos.
A knock on the door finally broke the moment.
Walker's voice came from the hallway.
"We leave for Eclipse in thirty minutes."
Victoria sighed with a smile.
"I suppose reality couldn't wait forever."
Emily laughed.
"No."
She gave Victoria one last gentle kiss.
"But when this is over..."
"...I'd like to take you somewhere there are no guns, no lies, and no one chasing us."
Victoria smiled brighter than she had in years.
"I'd like that."
Together, hand in hand, they walked out of the room—ready to face whatever awaited them, knowing they no longer had to face it alone.
