The storm had settled over New York.
Thunder rolled across the skyline as lightning illuminated the windows of the Moretti estate.
Victoria hadn't slept.
The silver pendant rested on her desk.
She picked it up once again.
A small engraving covered the back.
G.M.
Gabriel Moretti.
Her brother.
The brother she had mourned since she was eight years old.
"It can't be..." she whispered.
A gentle knock interrupted her thoughts.
Luca entered, carrying another file.
"Our men traced the pendant."
Victoria looked up.
"And?"
"It was recovered from a Black Viper lieutenant."
Silence filled the room.
Luca continued.
"Boss... there's something else."
Victoria already knew she wasn't going to like the answer.
"We found an old hospital record."
He placed the document on her desk.
"It appears a child was removed from the hospital the night of the fire."
Victoria's heartbeat quickened.
"The fire..."
"The one that killed your mother."
She slowly opened the folder.
Most of the pages had been damaged by time, but one sentence was still readable.
Male child transferred under government protection.
Victoria stared at the words.
"No death certificate..."
"No funeral..."
"No body."
For the first time in twenty years...
She allowed herself to believe the impossible.
Gabriel might still be alive.
Across Manhattan...
Emily couldn't stop looking at the photograph inside the anonymous envelope.
A younger Victoria smiled beside a boy with bright blue eyes.
Neither of them looked frightened.
Neither looked like they belonged to the world described in the FBI files.
Walker walked into her office.
"You've been staring at that picture all morning."
Emily turned it over.
"Do you know who Gabriel Moretti is?"
Walker frowned.
"I've never heard the name."
"He isn't in any official file."
Emily placed the photograph on the desk.
"Exactly."
Walker folded his arms.
"Someone erased him."
Later that afternoon...
Emily visited the city archives.
Boxes filled with decades-old police reports lined endless shelves.
An elderly archivist approached.
"Can I help you?"
Emily showed her badge.
"I'm looking for records connected to the Moretti family."
The woman nodded.
"There was a warehouse fire almost twenty years ago."
Emily looked surprised.
"I thought it happened at their home."
"So does everyone else."
She returned a few minutes later carrying a faded newspaper.
The headline read:
TRAGIC FIRE CLAIMS LIVES
Emily quickly read the article.
It mentioned Maria Moretti.
Several bodyguards.
But there was no mention of Gabriel.
No mention of a missing child.
It was as if he had never existed.
Emily whispered to herself,
"Someone rewrote history."
Meanwhile...
Volkov watched New York from the top floor of an abandoned skyscraper.
One of his commanders stepped beside him.
"Gabriel is becoming impatient."
Volkov smiled.
"Good."
"He deserves answers."
The commander hesitated.
"What if he discovers the truth?"
Volkov's smile faded.
"He won't."
"I made sure of that."
Back at the Moretti estate...
Victoria entered the hidden room beneath her father's office.
Very few people knew it existed.
Dust covered old wooden shelves.
Photographs.
Letters.
Journals.
She searched for hours.
Finally...
She found a leather-bound notebook.
Her father's handwriting filled every page.
She turned carefully until one sentence stopped her cold.
If anything happens to me, never let Victoria learn the truth about Gabriel until she is strong enough to survive it.
Her hands trembled.
"There was a truth..."
Before she could continue reading, the lights suddenly went out.
The room fell into darkness.
A loud crash echoed upstairs.
Victoria instantly drew her pistol.
Someone had broken into the estate.
Emily's phone rang.
Walker sounded breathless.
"Carter."
"We've got reports of an armed attack at the Moretti estate."
Emily stood so quickly that her chair fell backward.
"Volkov?"
"We don't know."
"But if Victoria is there..."
Emily didn't wait for the rest.
She grabbed her jacket and rushed toward the exit.
Inside the estate...
Gunfire erupted through the grand hallway.
Luca exchanged shots with masked attackers as staff members fled for safety.
Victoria moved through the mansion with deadly precision.
One attacker rushed toward her.
She disarmed him in seconds.
Another appeared from the shadows.
She ducked just as a knife sliced through the air.
The mansion had become a battlefield.
Then...
She heard a familiar voice.
"Victoria!"
She turned.
An older woman stumbled into the hallway.
Isabella.
The housekeeper who had raised her after her mother's death.
She looked terrified.
"They're looking for something."
Victoria ran to her.
"What?"
Before Isabella could answer...
A sniper's bullet shattered the window.
Victoria pulled Isabella to the floor just in time.
The old woman grabbed Victoria's wrist.
"They know about Gabriel..."
"They know..."
Her voice faded.
Victoria looked down in horror.
Blood spread across Isabella's dress.
"No..."
Isabella smiled weakly.
"Your mother..."
"...she never stopped loving you both."
Her hand slipped from Victoria's.
The hallway became silent.
Victoria closed her eyes.
Another person she loved...
Gone.
Outside the estate, police sirens grew louder.
And racing toward the front gates, lights flashing through the rain...
Emily Carter arrived just as another explosion shook the mansion.
Without hesitation, she ran inside.
She no longer knew whether she was chasing a suspect...
Or trying to save the woman she couldn't stop thinking about.
