Chapter 2

After graduation, Silk and I took a trip to visit a college about ten hours from home - the International School of Budaii. The place was incredible, offering almost everything a college student could want. We fell in love with it during our tour and decided right then that we would attend. We applied, and sure enough, we both got in on academic scholarships.

When we got back home, I told my mom about my decision. At first, she was against me going so far away for college, but after giving it some thought, she came around. Telling Silk's parents, on the other hand, was effortless - they were completely on board from the moment she mentioned it.

It was settled. Silk and I were going to the same college - though we weren't sure if we'd end up in the same dorm.

I chose to study finance, while Silk set her sights on becoming a realtor. With our goals in mind, the only thing left to do was achieve them. We didn't get assigned to the same dorm room, but we were lucky enough to end up on the same floor, right across the hall from each other. It wasn't perfect, but it was close enough.

Silk's roommate, Introtessa, barely spoke - if at all. Meanwhile, I got paired with Scarlet, who turned out to be the complete opposite. She was talkative, friendly - or at least, that was my first impression.

"How long have you and Silk been friends?" Scarlet asked.

"For quite some time now. It almost feels like we're inseparable."

"That must be nice," she said, her tone light but curious. "Having that kind of bond with someone."

"It really is," I replied, smiling. (Why is she asking all these questions?)

"Would it be possible for me to become friends with you both?" she asked.

(And there it is.) I hesitated for a moment but forced a jittery smile. "Sure, I don't see why not."

"Great," Scarlet said, a little too eagerly - almost as if she'd been waiting her whole life to hear that.

I made a mental note to tell Silk later, but there wasn't time to dwell on it. My first class was about to start, and I couldn't afford to be late.

As I walked away, I caught a glimpse of Scarlet's expression - just for a second. A smile, but something about it felt... off. Almost as if she was already plotting something.
