The vaulted throne room of the First Dawn was bathed in the warm, overlapping glow of Aurelia’s triple suns.
Before the twin thrones of fallen starlight and obsidian meteor-iron, the surviving lords, prelates, and commanders of the ring-world gathered in a solemn, breathtaking assembly.
Their battle-worn silver and gold armor shone clean under the restored crystal chandeliers, the scent of sacred myrrh burning gently in ancient bronze braziers.
At the base of the dais, High Elder Solan knelt, holding aloft an ornate coffer of white orichalcum inlaid with twelve pulsating star-diamonds.
Beside him stood General Aurelius, his massive solar broadsword sheathed at his hip, his eyes fixed on Seraphina with unyielding fidelity.
"By the blood of the First Dawn that burns within your veins, and by the right of liberation," Solan’s voice rang through the cathedral-like silence of the hall, resonant and clear, "the Council of Elders formally dissolves the Regency of Shadows."
The elder rose slowly, his hands unlatching the star-diamond coffer.
Within lay the Scepter of the Astral Sovereign—a slender rod of pure solidified dawn light, crowned with a rotating miniature nebula—and the Obsidian Ring of the Void-Consort, carved from the core of the galaxy's first dead star.
"Ten millennia ago, the First Emperor decreed that should our worlds fall into the abyss, only the union of the Solar Heart and the Abyssal Crown could break the final seal," Solan declared, turning his gaze between Seraphina and Kaelen.
"We do not merely crown a queen today. We acknowledge the restoration of the Dual Empire."
Solan climbed the dais steps with measured reverence.
He presented the glowing scepter to Seraphina.
As her fingers closed around the warm, humming orichalcum shaft, a radiant shockwave of golden light cascaded through her aura. The Crown of Caelum upon her brow flared in harmonic union with the scepter, casting majestic wings of light fifty paces across the chamber.
"I accept the mantle of Aurelia," Seraphina said, her amber eyes burning with sovereign resolve.
"Not as a tyrant from the past, but as a guardian of our future. Our people will rebuild, our wounded will be healed, and our borders will never fall to shadow again."
A thunderous cheer rippled through the gathered nobility.
Then Solan turned to Kaelen Vance.
The ancient elder knelt before the towering Night Sovereign, presenting the obsidian ring on a cushion of midnight velvet.
"High Sovereign Vance," Solan intoned, his head bowed.
"The blood of the Night Court has bathed our skies in protective shadow. We ask you to accept the title of Grand Marshal of the Astral Armies and Sovereign Consort of the Sunblood Throne."
Kaelen didn't take the ring immediately.
His molten silver eyes swept across the assembly, cold, calculating, and lethal, reminding every lord in the chamber of the predator who guarded their queen.
Then, his gaze softened as he turned back to Seraphina.
A slow, possessive smirk curved his lips as he slid the heavy obsidian band onto his finger.
The dark-matter band resized instantly, humming with cold violet lightning as it bonded to his flesh.
"I accept the army," Kaelen rumbled, his deep baritone vibrating through the stone dais like distant thunder.
"And I accept my Queen. Anyone who raises a blade against Aurelia... will answer to my shadows."
The hall erupted into a deafening roar of approval.
Swords were raised high into the starlight, their golden blades reflecting off the dark plates of Kaelen’s armor.
When the formal decree concluded and the council dispersed to coordinate the planetary repairs, the grand double doors closed, leaving only Seraphina and Kaelen on the elevated dais.
Seraphina let out a long, shuddering breath, the tension of the ceremony finally releasing from her shoulders.
She turned to him, the golden scepter resting lightly in her hand, her lips curving into a teasing smile.
"Grand Marshal Vance... it has quite a ring to it."
Kaelen stepped close, eliminating every inch of distance between them.
His large hands wrapped around her waist, pulling her flush against his armored body with that breathless, unyielding gravity that was entirely his own.
His molten silver eyes darkened with intense, simmering heat as he looked down at her lips.
"They can call me whatever they please, little sun," Kaelen growled huskily, his fingers digging into the curve of her hips.
"As long as behind closed doors... you call me yours."
He leaned down, claiming her mouth in a searing, intoxicating kiss that made her knees go weak, sweeping her up into an embrace that sealed their reign over the stars.
