The Great Grand Hall of Caelum's Reach was an ocean of blinding light and breathless silence.
The vaulted ivory arches, soaring two hundred paces above the polished marble floor, had been fully restored from the siege. The morning sun poured through the high stained-glass lunettes, casting dazzling mosaics of gold, sapphire, and royal violet across the assembled high nobility of the fae realm.
Ten thousand high-fae lords, battle-hardened commanders of the Black Vanguard, and envoys from the surviving sovereign courts filled the terraces in rigid, ceremonial tiers.
At the far end of the grand hall, upon a raised dais of white marble and black obsidian, sat the Dual Throne.
For five centuries, the golden throne of the Sunblood had stood empty, draped in funereal silk while the obsidian throne of the Night Court carried the lone, brooding weight of High Sovereign Kaelen Vance.
Today, both thrones were ready.
The massive brass doors at the foot of the hundred-pace aisle groaned open.
A collective intake of breath swept through the hall as Seraphina stepped across the threshold.
She looked nothing short of an immortal goddess of the dawn.
Her coronation gown was woven from spun celestial gold and iridescent white dragon-silk that flowed behind her in a three-yard train, trailing across the marble like liquid sunlight. Across her shoulders rested a mantle of woven solar feathers, accentuating the radiant twenty-foot wings of starlight folded gracefully against her back. Her auburn hair fell in an intricate crown of braids woven with diamonds and wild mountain heather, framing a face that radiated calm, regal authority.
Beside her, holding her gloved hand in a firm, reverent clasp, walked Kaelen Vance.
The High Sovereign wore his full ceremonial court dress: a tailored doublet of midnight-black velvet embroidered with silver thread along the lapels, over which sat a mantle of black dragon-scale clasped by the silver crescent of House Vance. His eighty-foot shadow-wings remained demurely tucked into his pocket-space, his molten silver eyes fixed solely on the woman at his side.
Together, they ascended the hundred marble steps in absolute synchrony.
At the summit of the dais stood Lady Vespera, High Priestess of the Veiled Archives, holding the ancient Crown of Caelum upon a cushion of crimson velvet. The crown was an exquisite masterpiece of ancient solar craftsmanship: a slender diadem of hammered sun-gold, crowned by a blazing amber diamond harvested from the core of the Sun-Mirror.
Seraphina and Kaelen reached the summit and turned to face the vast congregation.
Lady Vespera stepped forward, her voice ringing clear through the vaulted arches:
"By the blood of the first dawn, by the seven cleansed anchors of the Veil, and by the eternal bond of the Dual Eclipse... we crown Seraphina of House Vance, Sovereign of the Sunblood, High Queen of Caelum!"
Vespera lifted the golden diadem, resting it gently upon Seraphina’s brow.
The moment the amber diamond touched her skin, the diadem flared with brilliant, warm celestial fire. Seraphina’s golden crescent mark ignited at her throat, sending a radiant pulse of pure dawn washing across the entire hall.
Kaelen drew his ceremonial broadsword, dropping to one knee before her upon the obsidian dais.
The High Sovereign bowed his head, resting his forehead against her gloved knuckles.
"My heart, my blade, my kingdom," Kaelen swore, his deep baritone carrying across the breathless silence of ten thousand lords. "Forever yours, my Queen."
Behind him, with a synchronized, deafening clatter of steel that shook the mountain, all ten thousand high-fae lords, generals, and archons dropped to their knees in unison.
"Hail the High Queen! Hail the Dawn!" their voices roared, echoing off the ivory spires.
Kaelen rose, his silver eyes burning with breathtaking pride and possessive hunger as he pulled Seraphina into his arms, kissing her before the entire court with unapologetic, sovereign passion.
The grand hall erupted into thunderous, jubilant cheers that echoed across the cloud sea.
Yet as the celebration roared, Seraphina felt a sudden, distant harmonic tremor deep within her core.
Looking out through the grand cathedral windows past the mountains, her eyes caught the distant horizon of the mortal world beyond the Veil.
The seven anchors were sealed, and the mortal cities were safe from the Void-Mother’s initial breach. But deep in the outer cosmos, where the stars turned black, ancient eyes were opening.
The war for the Veil had only just begun.
