The sky above Salisbury Plain was screaming.
Deprived of Vaelakor’s bloody chalice to direct their inverse orbit, the thirty-ton sarsen stones and smaller bluestones spun in violent, chaotic trajectories thirty paces above the turf. The spatial distortion tore at the atmosphere, pulling clumps of wet chalk, rainwater, and shredded clouds into the central vortex.
A yawning tear into the Ninth Sphere opened at the eye of the storm, revealing the churning, oily violet abyss of the Void-Mother’s domain.
Seraphina didn't hesitate.
She vaulted into the freezing drizzle, her twenty-foot wings of starlight snapping wide in an incandescent detonation of pure, unblemished dawn. The golden radiance pierced the Wiltshire gloom, turning the falling mist into a halo of diamond sparks.
She soared straight into the epicenter of the inverted circle, hovering weightlessly between the tumbling megaliths.
Her paramedic instincts kicked in with razor-sharp clarity.
Triage the trauma, she told herself, her amber eyes scanning the erratic flight paths of the prehistoric stones. The sarsen trilithons are the outer anchors, but the inner bluestones carry the harmonic pitch. Settle the frequency, and the weight will follow.
"Kaelen!" she called out, her voice ringing across their mate-bond with crystalline authority. "I need you to catch the outer ring! The weight of the sarsens will crush the leylines if they drop all at once!"
"I have the weight, little sun," Kaelen roared from the churning mud below.
The High Sovereign launched skyward, his eighty-foot shadow-wings blacking out the storm clouds. He didn't chase the stones; he expanded his aura into a vast, hemispherical dome of dark-matter gravity that encompassed the entire perimeter of the ditch.
The crushing field seized the tumbling thirty-ton sarsens in midair, locking their wild spins into a slow, suspended drift. Tendons strained along Kaelen’s armored neck, his molten silver eyes flaring as he bore the immense kinetic burden of thousands of tons of ancient stone.
With the outer ring stabilized, Seraphina dove toward the inner circle.
She flew directly to the central Altar Stone, which was glowing with corrupted, weeping crimson veins.
Hovering an inch above the green sandstone slab, Seraphina extended both hands. Her golden crescent mark burned at the base of her throat, projecting the sacred geometry of the Sunblood dynasty across the stone face.
She didn't just push her light into the rock—she sang.
A high, pure, harmonic tone resonated from her chest, tuned to the ancient frequency she had absorbed from the Heart of Susanoo and the Solar Dynamo of Ra. The azure lightning of the storm and the golden fire of dawn spiraled along her forearms, sinking deep into the bluestone's mineral core.
The ancient dolerite pillars, hauled from the Preseli Hills five millennia ago by hands that understood the music of the earth, began to hum in response.
One by one, the crimson corruption was purged. The weeping black slime sizzled into odorless white vapor as the blue stones ignited with pristine, sapphire luminescence.
Now, Kaelen! Ground them! Seraphina sent the command through their soul-tether.
Working in absolute synchrony, the sovereigns descended.
Kaelen lowered his gravity field with surgical precision, guiding the massive sarsen trilithons back down into their prehistoric chalk sockets. As each thirty-ton stone struck the earth, Seraphina struck it with an arc of stabilizing celestial lightning, welding the mineral roots back into the English bedrock.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The rhythmic impact of the stones sounded like the heartbeat of an awakening titan.
With the final bluestone locked firmly into place, the ancient harmonic alignment completed. A blinding pillar of sapphire and gold light erupted from the center of the Altar Stone, shooting straight through the vortex above.
The rift into the Ninth Sphere shrieked as the purified leyline slammed the tear shut, stitching reality back together with threads of starlight.
The storm vanished.
The freezing drizzle gave way to a tranquil, velvet night. Above Salisbury Plain, the full moon shone down through parting clouds, casting long, peaceful silver shadows through the standing stones.
Seraphina drifted down to the damp grass, landing softly on her knees atop the Altar Stone. Her chest heaved, steam curling from her white dragon-scale armor as her golden wings folded loosely against her back.
A heavy rush of displaced air heralded Kaelen’s arrival.
He touched down upon the stone slab, his dark-matter wings folding into his midnight cloak. His breath came in deep, ragged bursts, his hair damp against his high cheekbones, but his silver eyes burned with raw, untamed reverence as he looked at her.
Kaelen knelt before her, his large, scarred hands reaching out to cup her flushed cheeks.
"Five anchors cleansed," he murmured, his deep baritone thick with fierce, intoxicating emotion. "You are remaking this broken world with your bare hands, my Queen."
Seraphina leaned into his touch, her trembling fingers wrapping around his wrists.
"We are remaking it," she corrected softly, her amber eyes locking with his. "Together."
Kaelen didn't reply with words.
He leaned forward, capturing her mouth in a slow, deep, devastatingly sensual kiss that tasted of rain, ozone, and eternal victory. His hands slid down to her waist, pulling her slender, armored form tightly against his chest, their breaths mingling in the quiet English night as their shared heartbeat echoed through the ancient stones.
When their lips finally parted, Seraphina rested her forehead against his shoulder, catching her breath.
Across their mate-bond, a distant, icy ripple shivered through the ether.
Seraphina straightened slightly, her eyes turning westward toward the Atlantic horizon.
"The Sixth Anchor," she whispered, feeling the cold vibration through the earth.
Kaelen’s jaw hardened, his arm tightening possessively around her waist as he looked into the distance.
"The Andes," Kaelen rumbled, his sovereign focus reasserting itself. "The peaks of Machu Picchu. The Maw has already begun the ascent."
