The turf of Salisbury Plain disintegrated under the kinetic fury of fifty charging Gloom-Hounds.
The horse-sized horrors crossed the mist-choked grassland in seconds, their multiple rows of serrated fangs dripping emerald bile that hissed into the wet earth.
Seraphina met their charge like an immovable wall of celestial dawn.
Her twenty-foot wings of starlight snapped open in an incandescent flare of pure white-gold heat, illuminating the ancient chalk barrows for miles around. Drawing her sunstone recurve bow, she didn't just loose single arrows—she channeled the integrated resonance of the Heart of Susanoo directly through the crystal riser.
Crack-boom.
Each arrow released was an azure thunderbolt wrapped in thermonuclear dawn.
The five lead hounds were vaporized on impact, their sinew and shadow carapaces blasted into harmless, sparkling dust before they could even howl. As three more lunged over their fallen pack-mates with jaws gaping wide, Seraphina dropped her bow, drew her twin sunstone daggers, and dove forward into the melee.
She moved with breathtaking, lethal elegance.
A hound snapped at her throat; she spun under its snapping jaws, her left dagger carving through its neck in a spray of boiling golden light, while her right wing snapped forward, the razor-sharp crystallized plasma feathers slicing two flanking beasts clean in half at the torso.
Fifty yards away, the clash between sovereigns shook the very foundations of Wiltshire.
Kaelen Vance struck Blood-Archon Vaelakor like a falling black comet.
Gloom-Weaver descended in a brutal, two-handed vertical execution cleave. Vaelakor raised the Chalice of the First Harrowing, channeling the boiling, stolen blood of thousands into a crimson anti-matter barrier.
The impact of broadsword on blood-shield detonated with the force of a high-yield bomb.
A circular shockwave of dark matter and red lightning rippled outward, carving a ten-foot-deep trench into the chalk bed and sending the surrounding inverted sarsen stones wobbling violently in their suspended magnetic orbits.
"You fight for a dead world, Vance!" Vaelakor snarled, his aristocratic face warping into a mask of demonic fury as the bones of his arms groaned under Kaelen’s crushing weight. "The Ninth Sphere is already breathing against the glass! When I drain your royal blood into this chalice, the final barrier collapses!"
"My blood belongs to my Queen," Kaelen growled, his molten silver eyes burning with merciless sovereign arrogance.
His eighty-foot shadow-wings surged forward like titanic, barbed scythes, wrapping around the blood-shield and siphoning the kinetic energy straight into the void.
With a savage snarl, Kaelen shifted his grip.
He drove his armored forehead straight into Vaelakor’s face. The concussive headbutt cracked the Archon’s obsidian horns and shattered his aristocratic nose in a shower of black gore, staggering the ancient butcher backward across the bloody grass.
Before Vaelakor could recover his stance, Kaelen swept his broadsword horizontally.
The dark-matter blade severed the Archon’s right hand at the wrist.
The Chalice of the First Harrowing tumbled from his severed fingers, spinning through the freezing drizzle before landing heavily in the wet mud. The crimson barrier flickered and died.
Vaelakor shrieked in agony, clutching his spurting wrist, his crimson eyes wide with frantic, disbelieving horror.
"Curse you, half-blood dog!"
Behind them, Seraphina vaporized the final two Gloom-Hounds with a dual-starlight slash, spinning around to join Kaelen at the center of the prehistoric circle. Her armor smoked with ozone, her amber eyes burning with righteous fury.
"Look up!" Seraphina called out.
Above their heads, the suspended megaliths were spinning out of control.
The inverted bluestones had begun to bleed blinding rivers of pure crimson plasma directly into the weeping dimensional rift overhead. Deprived of the chalice’s stabilizing conduit, the inverted ritual was collapsing into a catastrophic dimensional feedback loop.
A swirling vortex of unstable temporal distortion was opening directly over Stonehenge, threatening to pull the entire British Isles into the cold void of the Ninth Sphere.
Vaelakor looked up at the swirling vortex, a wet, bloody laugh bubbling up from his torn throat.
"You fool!" the wounded Archon coughed, stumbling backward toward the edge of the pit. "You broke the siphon! The stones cannot be righted! We will all be swallowed by the Maw!"
Kaelen stepped up to the cowering Archon, his boot coming down with crushing finality upon Vaelakor’s chest, pinning him to the damp earth.
He rested the dark-matter tip of Gloom-Weaver against the butcher's throat, looking down with cold, emotionless detachment.
"You underestimate my Queen," Kaelen rumbled.
With a single, effortless thrust, Kaelen ended the Blood-Archon of the Western Reach.
He turned his silver gaze to Seraphina, his hand reaching out across the ruined circle.
"The stones, Seraphina," Kaelen commanded with quiet, absolute trust. "Re-anchor the earth!"
