The golden arrow of pure solar dawn ripped through the invisible acoustic beam like a scalpel cutting through diseased tissue.
The split frequency shrieked and dissipated into the surrounding liquid dark-ether, sending violent ripples across the black floor of the trench.
Before Xylara could draw another breath to reconstitute her psychic wail, Seraphina closed the distance at hypersonic speed.
Her twenty-foot wings of starlight burned with blinding white-gold fire, illuminating the alabaster horror of the Void-Siren's face.
Dropping her sunstone bow, Seraphina summoned the Scepter of the Astral Sovereign with both hands, driving the full thermonuclear fury of theSolar Dynamo of Ra straight into its rotating miniature nebula.
"Your song ends here!" Seraphina declared, her voice ringing with the absolute authority of the First Dawn.
She drove the white-hot head of the Scepter straight down toward the creature's exposed alabaster throat.
Xylara lashed out with her needle-sharp obsidian claws, screaming with the rage of a cornered predator.
Her claws tore through the air, inches from Seraphina's throat—
CLANG-CRUNCH.
A colossal blade of blackened meteor-iron intercepted the claws in mid-strike.
Kaelen dropped from the upper gloom like a fallen angel of pure vengeance.
His eighty-foot shadow-wings snapped shut, shearing through three of the creature’s mist-wings with razor-sharp dark-matter feathers.
Gloom-Weaver flared with cold violet lightning as Kaelen twisted the blade, snapping Xylara’s obsidian talons at the wrist with a brutal, sickening crunch.
"Do not dare touch my Queen," Kaelen snarled, his molten silver eyes burning with lethal, primal wrath.
Using theObsidian Ring of the Void-Consort, Kaelen drove his left fist down into the crown of weeping black pearls atop the siren's skull.
A localized gravity implosion of three thousand atmospheres crushed the creature’s psychic crown, pinning her thrashing head firmly against the stone shelf of the trench.
"Now, Seraphina! Sever the voice!" Kaelen roared, his muscles straining as he held the elder god down.
Seraphina didn't hesitate.
Plunging from the air, she drove the blazing head of the Scepter straight into Xylara’s open maw, burying the thermonuclear core directly into the creature’s vocal chords.
THUMP-HISS.
Ten thousand degrees of pure solar dawn detonated inside the Void-Siren’s throat.
The creature’s psychic screams were instantly choked into gurgling steam as the holy fire incinerated her vocal cords, melted her obsidian teeth into slag, and burned through the necrotic nerve clusters within her skull.
White-gold light erupted through the fissures of her alabaster skin, turning her translucent mist-wings into harmless, glittering ash.
With one final, silent tremor that shook the foundations of the trench, Xylara, the Weaver of Whispers, dissolved into a swirling vortex of dark water and dying sparks.
The suffocating silence of the trench shattered.
The electromagnetic dead-zone lifted, and the external sensors of the fleet snapped back to full, vibrant life.
Seraphina dropped down onto the stone shelf, the Scepter dissolving back into starlight, her limbs trembling with exhaustion.
Before her knees could hit the ground, Kaelen caught her.
He swept her up into his arms, lifting her against his chest plate, his breathing ragged, his face streaked with black ichor and sweat.
His silver eyes burned with raw, untamed reverence as he looked down at her.
"You silenced the Siren, my love," Kaelen whispered huskily, his forehead resting gently against hers.
"You severed the voice of the dark."
Seraphina smiled weakly, wrapping her arms around his neck, letting her head rest against his shoulder.
"Four down, Kaelen," she breathed, her lips brushing his cheek. "Four down."
Kaelen groaned softly, his mouth finding hers in a slow, deep, devastatingly passionate kiss that tasted of iron, ozone, and unyielding triumph.
The heat of his lips chased the lingering chill of the trench from her blood, anchoring her in his boundless warmth.
As they finally parted, a single, glowing object rose from the ashes of the destroyed siren:
A fist-sized, opalescent orb that glowed with shifting violet and silver light—the Pearl of the Void-Siren.
From above, the comm-relays crackled to life with General Aurelius’s booming voice:
"High Queen! Grand Marshal! The psychic fog has lifted! The armada reports zero casualties! We are ready for extraction!"
Kaelen caught the glowing pearl in his hand, looking down at Seraphina with that dark, breathtaking smirk she loved so dearly.
"Four down, five to go, little sun. Let us claim our pearl and show the next five horrors how the Dawn and the Night wage war."
