PART 4 - "The Temptation Trial"
Monday hit like a storm.
I walked into the office that morning with dark coffee, a darker lipstick, and an even darker mood. My heels echoed down the hallway like warning shots, my hips swayed like I owned the building - which, spiritually, I did.
But something was off.
Whispers. Eye flicks. Silence when I passed.
Even Devon looked tense, jaw clenched behind his morning espresso, suit extra sharp like he was dressing for war.
And then it hit my inbox:
Subject: URGENT - HR Investigation Notification
Allegation of misconduct filed. You are scheduled to meet with HR Wednesday at 9:00 AM.
No signature. No explanation.
But I already knew who pulled the trigger.
Lisa.
Scene: Break Room - Later That Day
Tiana was leaned against the fridge like it was a support group for bitter women. Lisa sat with her legs crossed high, flipping through her phone like she wasn't the very villain of this season.
"Oh," Lisa said loudly, "I just think the workplace should be professional. No one should get special treatment because they're screwing the team lead."
She glanced at me. Eyes slick. Lips curled.
I didn't flinch. I smiled.
"Exactly. If we all got judged based on what we do on our backs... you'd be unemployed."
Tiana choked on her granola bar.
Devon was furious.
"They're jealous. They can't stand that you don't chase attention - it chases you."
He paced my office, running his hand over his beard. "I'm handling this. I'll talk to Carl."
But I stopped him.
"Nah," I said. "Let her dig her grave. I've got the shovel and the receipts."
I opened my email and clicked on a hidden folder titled: "Workplace Snake Files." Inside were video clips - screen recordings from Zoom meetings, screenshots of Lisa trying to flirt via Teams, voice memos of her "accidentally" calling Devon after hours to ask for "presentation help."
They wanted a war.
I was ready for court.
Wednesday - HR Office
Carl sat stiff in his chair. Lisa was beside him with her lips pursed, wearing a gray cardigan and fake innocence. I wore black. All black. Like vengeance wrapped in elegance.
Carl folded his hands. "Ms. Wilkins, there have been reports of favoritism and inappropriate displays - "
I held up a flash drive.
"Before we go further, I'd like to submit this evidence. Clear footage of Ms. Lisa Thompson engaging in persistent, unreciprocated behavior toward a fellow employee."
I looked at her. She paled.
"Oh," I added, smiling sweetly, "and a printed log of every time she contacted Devon outside of work hours, requesting... private help."
Carl took the drive.
Lisa stood up. "This is harassment - she's lying!"
But it was too late.
Carl was already clicking the mouse, playing the first clip.
Lisa (voice recording): "I could stop by your place, maybe go over the slides in your bedroom?"
Devon (flat): "No thanks. I'm seeing someone."
Lisa: "So what? It's not like she'll keep you."
Boom.
Two Days Later...
Lisa was reassigned to another branch.
"Restructuring," they said.
Tiana? Suddenly respectful. Quiet. Avoidant.
Jasmine? Transferred.
And the whispers? They stopped.
I walked into work on Friday with red heels and a body-hugging jumpsuit that said: You survived, they didn't.
Devon greeted me at my desk with flowers - peach roses and black dahlias.
"Your victory bouquet."
I smiled, tugged him closer by his tie, and whispered:
"Let's celebrate."
Scene: His Office, Door Locked
He pressed me against the wall, hands roaming, lips worshipping every inch of exposed skin. I climbed on top of his desk, cleared it with one sweep of my arm, and laid back like a reward he earned.
The passion was angry, desperate, primal. Clothes torn. Hair tugged. Whimpers muffled by kisses. He filled me with love and revenge.
The desk creaked. I didn't care.
Afterwards, he lay back breathless, my nails still digging into his chest.
"They should've never come for you," he said, voice low.
"They forgot," I whispered, tracing his jaw, "I don't play defense. I run the game."
