PART 20 - "The USB, the Lies & the Last Straw"
Scene: Back Home, But Not Back to Peace
The Bahamas glow was still on my skin, tan lines peeking through my silk robe as I unpacked my suitcase in our high-rise condo. Candles flickered. Nova slept soundly in her nursery. Devon was at the gym.
I had just finished placing my wedding heels in their box when the doorbell rang.
A small, unmarked envelope sat on the mat. No postage. No name.
Inside?
A single black USB drive.
And a note written in glitter pen:
"He's not who you think he is."
Scene: The Footage
I plugged it in.
First - laughter.
Loud music. Men yelling "Bachelor Night!"
It was Devon. Shirtless. Drunk. Surrounded by three women.
At first, it seemed innocent. Just wild. But then, the camera zoomed in.
One girl sat on his lap, whispering something. Another fed him strawberries.
The third? She pulled out a marker and wrote "Taken?" across his chest.
Devon just laughed.
He didn't push them away.
Didn't walk off.
Didn't say "I'm engaged."
My heart dropped to my ankles.
Scene: He Walks In
"Babe?" Devon called, dropping his gym bag.
I sat on the edge of the bed, laptop open, the video paused mid-frame - his hand on some girl's thigh.
He saw the screen.
He froze.
"What is this?" I asked, voice sharp, cold, trembling.
He ran a hand through his beard.
"Okay… okay, I can explain - "
Scene: The Confrontation
"You told me your bachelor party was dinner and cigars. This looks like Girls Gone Wild."
"It was a surprise. I didn't know they were bringing dancers - "
"You enjoyed it, Devon."
I stood, eyes glassy.
"I defended you. I went to war for you. I lost friends. And you let someone sit on you like you're single?"
He reached for me. I pulled away.
"I didn't cheat," he whispered.
"But you disrespected me," I snapped.
"And that's worse."
Scene: The Silent Night
He slept on the couch.
I stayed in our bed, clutching Nova's blanket like a lifeline.
No texts. No calls.
Just that video replaying in my mind over and over.
That laugh.
That hand.
That lie.
Scene: The Decision
Morning came. He was gone. A note sat on the counter:
"I know I messed up. I didn't sleep with anyone, but I should've told you. I'll be at the lake house. Take your time."
I stared at it.
Then looked at the wedding dress bag hanging on the closet door.
