PART 17 - "Mothers, Money & Marriage Ultimatums"
Scene: The Return of a Queen… or a Storm
Devon's mother didn't knock.
She swept into the penthouse like she still paid the mortgage.
Hair pinned high, pearls resting on her cinnamon-toned collarbone, and heels that clicked with judgment.
Vivian West was elegance with an edge.
The kind of woman who kissed your cheek and sized up your soul at the same time.
I stood from the couch, wiping Nova's face with a warm cloth, wearing leggings and a crop tee. Not exactly first-impression couture, but I held my ground.
She glanced at the baby, then at me.
"So… this is her," she said flatly.
"Yes," Devon said, voice low. "This is Leprinthinya. My fiancée."
She smiled.
But not with her eyes.
Scene: The Private Meeting
"Can we speak alone?" she asked me, already turning toward the glass study.
Devon looked torn, but I nodded. "It's fine."
I walked in, heels clicking louder than hers.
She shut the door gently, then placed a leather folder on the desk.
"A prenuptial agreement," she said, like she was offering me tea. "Standard. Protective. Mandatory."
I didn't sit. "You don't think I love your son?"
"I think love fades. But assets? They don't."
I crossed my arms. "I make my own money."
"But you don't come from it," she clipped back. "You're beautiful. Smart. But you're not one of us."
I smiled - slow, deadly. "Maybe he didn't want one of you. Maybe he wanted me."
Scene: What She Revealed
She leaned forward, voice quieter. "Devon has an inheritance tied to this marriage. If he marries without the prenup, his father's firm will challenge everything. The trust. The shares. His name."
My throat tightened. "And if I refuse to sign?"
She straightened. "Then you'll be the reason your daughter's father loses millions."
She walked out.
I stood there, heart pounding.
Scene: The Confrontation with Devon
When Devon came home later, I was pacing, the envelope unopened on the table.
"She said you'd lose your legacy if I didn't sign this."
He sighed, throwing his keys. "She what?"
I held it out. "Tell me it's not true."
He took the envelope. Looked me dead in the eye.
"It's true."
Silence.
"But I don't care," he said. "I'll walk away from all of it for you."
Tears burned in my eyes.
"I won't let you," I whispered. "Not for me. Not for Nova. You earned that name."
"So what do we do?" he asked.
I took the pen.
And I signed the prenup.
But I made one addition.
Scene: The Amendment
If infidelity occurs, the betrayed party walks away with full custody, half assets, and control of the penthouse.
He blinked.
I looked at him, fierce.
"I don't need your money. But I won't be disrespected."
He laughed.
Pulled me in.
And whispered, "That's why I'm marrying you."
