Recovery was supposed to bring us closer.
At least, that's what I believed. In my mind, this was the moment where our bond would be tested and proven. I pictured her sitting by my bedside, whispering prayers, promising we'd get through this together.
And in the beginning, she played the part well.
She held my hand, wiped my tears, and spoke softly of brighter days ahead. But as my body slowly healed, something else began to break - not physically, but spiritually and emotionally.
The warmth in her voice faded.
The late-night talks disappeared.
She stopped answering my calls right away, her excuses stacking up like lies built on a shaky foundation.
At first, I told myself she was tired, overwhelmed, scared like me.
But then I started noticing things I couldn't ignore.
Money missing from our shared accounts.
Receipts for things we never bought together.
Her phone lighting up late at night with messages she didn't want me to see.
One day, while she was in the shower, her phone buzzed again.
A name I didn't recognize flashed on the screen. My stomach dropped.
Against every fiber of trust I had left, I opened it - and the truth unraveled before my eyes.
Messages of passion.
Plans for a future that didn't include me.
Mocking words about me - about the very man who had built her up from nothing.
My breath caught in my throat as the reality set in.
The woman I loved, the woman I gave everything to, hadn't just betrayed me physically - she had betrayed my soul.
I realized then that the threefold cord I believed in was never real.
It wasn't me, her, and God.
It was me, her lies, and her secret life.
And in that moment, something in me died.

Scripture for the Journey
"But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such 'wisdom' does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic."
- James 3:14-15 (NIV)
