Chapter 2

Rainy Encounter

Liz was busy attending to the steady stream of customers in "Petals & Posies." The shop was filled with the sweet fragrance of fresh flowers and the soft hum of conversations. Liz's hands moved deftly, arranging bouquets and wrapping them with care. She loved the hustle and bustle, but today, she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Every now and then, she glanced out the window and saw Finn, her new neighbor, standing by his window, watching the world go by.

Finn had spent the day unpacking and familiarizing himself with his new home. The serene environment of Canterbury was a stark contrast to the places he had been. He found solace in the simplicity of his new surroundings. As the day wore on, he noticed the sky darkening and the first drops of rain beginning to fall.

By late afternoon, the rain had turned into a heavy downpour. Liz, realizing the displayed flowers outside were getting drenched, rushed out to bring them inside. She struggled with the pots and vases, her clothes quickly soaking through. Finn watched from his window, feeling a pang of concern. Without a second thought, he grabbed his coat and dashed out into the rain.

"Let me help you," Finn called out as he approached Liz. She looked up, surprised but grateful. Together, they hurriedly moved the flowers inside, their hands brushing against each other as they worked. Despite the rain, Liz felt a warmth spreading through her.

"Thank you so much," Liz said, her voice barely audible over the rain. "I'm Liz, by the way."

"Finn," he replied with a nod, his eyes meeting hers for the first time. There was a moment of silence, the rain creating a cocoon around them. Liz noticed the softness in Finn's eyes, a stark contrast to his rugged exterior.

"Would you like to come in for a cup of tea?" Liz offered, her smile warm and inviting.

Finn hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "I'd like that."

Inside the cozy flower shop, the rain pattered against the windows, creating a soothing backdrop. Liz made tea, and they sat at a small table surrounded by flowers. They talked about their lives, their interests, and their dreams. Liz found herself laughing at Finn's dry humor, and Finn was captivated by Liz's passion for her work.

As the evening wore on, the rain began to let up. Finn stood to leave, but not before promising to visit the shop again. "Thank you for the tea, Liz. It was nice getting to know you."

"You're welcome, Finn. I'm glad we finally met," Liz replied, her smile lingering as she watched him leave.

As Finn walked back to his house, he felt a sense of contentment he hadn't felt in a long time. Liz, too, felt a flutter of excitement. Their paths had finally crossed, and both were curious to see where this new connection would lead.
