The day Steve arrived, Olivia could barely think straight.
She had changed outfits three times, each one making her feel too young, too formal, too eager. In the end, she settled on a soft cream dress that skimmed her curves and let her feel like herself.
He texted her from the airport.
"Landed. See you soon, beautiful."
Her heart beat a rhythm she couldn't quiet.
When she saw him walk through the arrivals gate, she froze.
He was even more striking in person. Tall, commanding, dressed in a charcoal suit with no tie - casual elegance that screamed quiet power. His salt-and-pepper hair was perfectly tousled, and when his eyes found hers, the world blurred.
"Olivia," he said, softly but firmly.
She nodded, too overwhelmed to speak as he approached. His hug wasn't rushed. It was slow, full-bodied - like a man savoring something he'd waited too long for. She melted into his arms, inhaling the subtle scent of expensive cologne and warmth.
They didn't rush. Over lunch at a quiet riverside restaurant, they talked like old lovers and first dates all at once. Her nervousness faded as he listened intently, his hand occasionally grazing hers, his gaze never wavering.
When they got to her apartment, the air shifted.
Steve stood in her living room, his jacket slung over the back of a chair, watching her like she was the only thing in the room that mattered. Olivia suddenly felt self-conscious - the modest space, the secondhand couch, the little bookshelf filled with worn-out novels.
But he smiled. "It's exactly you. Warm. Honest."
She turned to put away her bag, but before she could move, he was behind her.
His hands slid gently over her shoulders. "You don't have to be nervous," he whispered, his voice low, velvet-smooth. "But I'd be lying if I said I haven't imagined this moment. Countless times."
She turned to face him, breath catching as his hands cupped her face.
And then, finally - his lips met hers.
It started slow. A careful question. But when she answered with a soft sigh, he deepened the kiss. Her hands found his chest, firm and broad beneath his shirt. He lifted her gently by the waist, and she gasped as he settled her onto the edge of the couch, never breaking the kiss.
He kissed her neck, each touch sending warmth pulsing through her. His hands explored her back, her sides - firm but reverent. Every inch he touched, he worshipped. He didn't rush. He lingered. He looked her in the eyes, constantly checking that she was with him.
"Tell me if it's too much," he murmured, fingertips tracing the strap of her dress.
"It's not," she whispered. "I want this. I want you."
He leaned in again, this time slower, with a hunger that made her tremble. Her dress slipped from her shoulders. His lips trailed lower. Every movement was deliberate, savoring, patient.
The way he touched her - not like a conquest, but like a promise - was more intimate than anything she had ever known.
Later, wrapped in each other on the couch, her head on his chest, he stroked her hair and whispered, "You're more than I imagined. And I've imagined a lot."
She smiled against his skin, her world spinning quietly in his arms.
Something had begun - something deep, passionate, and consuming. And she wasn't afraid of it anymore.
