The morning after didn't feel like a new beginning.
It felt like home - not a place, not a plan, but a feeling long forgotten.
Shruthi woke first.
She turned to Arjun, his breath calm, his face softer than she remembered. For two years, she had chased a version of success that slowly pulled her away from the only success that ever mattered - them.
She ran her fingers through his hair, whispering, "You stayed…"
Eyes still closed, he smiled. "You called."
Over breakfast, the silence was replaced with something beautiful - small stories, awkward jokes, and shared sips of coffee too sweet for either of them to admit they liked.
They didn't speak of mistakes.
They spoke of now.
Of planting small herbs on the windowsill.
Of traveling again, maybe Greece this time.
Of trying for a child - not because they were ready, but because they were together.
Later that week, they visited the park nearby - hand in hand like teenagers rediscovering what love without pressure felt like. The wind was gentle. The world finally quiet.
Arjun looked at her and said, "You don't need to be everything to everyone. Just be you. That's the one I married."
She leaned in.
"And you don't have to shrink yourself to fit into my world. Let's build one where we both can breathe."
No fear.
No roles.
Just them.
Back home, they sat on the couch - a little worn, a little too small. Just like their love had been - stretched thin, almost torn - but somehow… still holding.
Shruthi rested her head on his chest.
"What do we call this new chapter?" she asked.
Arjun kissed her forehead.
"Simple," he said.
"Home is us."
