Chapter 1: It Begins!

Psych Lab - Vancouver, 2080.

My name is Jay Kato, an American Japanese man stuck in an experiment. It was my own doing, I did it voluntarily because I did not want to be useless. My whole life my peers have called me stupid and useless, sometimes even my own family called me that. Now they no longer exist. I lost both of my parents to the war against the conqueror. Times have changed from what they used to be, now the earth is barely surviving, humanity is barely surviving. Plants have died, the chemicals from the previous decades have almost completely killed the environment. The war worsened the earth's condition.

I went on one of the limited flights from California to Vancouver. A cab was waiting for me, when I went inside, the assistant, Rose was there. She handed me some forms I needed to sign before I participated in the experiment. She led me to a pod of some sort, similar to the ones shown in this old movie called The Matrix. I went inside the pod and was put to sleep.

When I woke up, I was in this room, with white walls. Everything that I specified in the form was put into the room. I found a notebook, the same notebook I am writing in right now. I wonder if they want to see how we react to being isolated and that's why the notebook is here. I guess I will write a list to be organised.

Now I have to list all the things I need to do.

Jay's list

Cook

Eat dinner

Wash the dishes

Clean

Take a shower

Play on the gaming station

Play on the holographic laptop

Exercise

Brush my teeth

Go to sleep.

The researchers had insisted that the subjects of this experiment were to start in the evening for some reason? I don't really know. All I know is that I'll help save humanity maybe? It's time I step up and become a man.

????????????????????????????????????????.

December 19th, 2080.

Welp today is officially when I start my day in Virtual Reality. I still haven't gotten used to living in this really white room. It was somewhat hard to sleep. Okay I'm gonna write a list again. It's not actually mandatory for participants to write in the notebook provided, but I still want to write as if I'm talking to someone. I'm not much of a talker but sometimes even introverted people need to talk to someone. I know it hasn't even been a day but it somehow feels lonely to be inside a room where you can't even get out.

Jay's list # 2

Cook

Eat breakfast

Wash dishes

Workout

Take a shower

Play at the gaming section for a while

Eat lunch

Brush my teeth

Wash dishes

Play on the hololaptop for a while

Eat dinner

Brush my teeth

Another workout

Sleep.

????????????????????????????????????????

December 25th, 2080.

I was just doing my daily chores, when the doctor in charge of the experiment came into my room with multiple men. I had no idea what was happening. This wasn't something that I knew about, I just thought I was supposed to live in virtual reality for two months.

I don't remember what Dr. Grant said, I could only remember what I said, so I'll paraphrase the words that the doctor had told me.

"What is going on!!? Did something happen?" I said in confusion as I clenched my fist. My heartbeat started to pound into my chest.

"No, nothing is wrong. I am just here to oversee the removal of items in this room just like I had done with the other participants."

"What do you mean!"

" Ah, right you must be confused because it didn't say in the form that there would be a removal of items. I cannot say the true purpose of this experiment so I apologize for leaving you in the dark."

"Why are they removing items that are for entertainment?!"

"The next phase of the experiment is about to start. I'd like to see how humans would react to no entertainment" The doctor nodded before leaving with the men.

Now the only things that could keep me occupied are various books with different genres and this notebook?

Why did the doctor not tell us about this part of the experiment? I paced around the room like an animal in a cage. I tried to think as hard as I could about why she would even consider doing this to us? It makes no sense to me. Is she even trying to save humanity? Or is this some game to her?
