Christopher's cousin hosted a garden party, the kind with too much lemonade and shy teenagers lurking behind potted plants. Christopher didn't plan to stand out. But Benjamin noticed.
"You've got something on your lip," Benjamin said, stepping close. "Cherry?"
Christopher blushed and wiped it with his sleeve, but Benjamin laughed. "No, don't ruin it - it's nice. It's soft."
That word echoed. Soft.
Christopher hadn't thought of himself that way. He wore dark hoodies, kept his tone careful. But Benjamin was looking at him like softness was everything.
Later, behind the garage, Benjamin passed him a bottle of apple cider and whispered, "I've been thinking about kissing you again. If you want."
Christopher swallowed. "Okay."
It wasn't theatrical. Just Benjamin brushing close, lipgloss tasting like honey, mouth warm and certain. Christopher's eyes fluttered shut. His hands clutched Benjamin's hips not like possession, but like gratitude.
They kissed slowly - exploring, daring, reverent.
When they pulled away, Benjamin said, "You're so careful it makes my chest hurt."
Christopher smiled, dazed. "That's... probably the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me."
The moon came out. The music softened. And Christopher felt desirable - not because he changed, but because someone saw him exactly as he was and leaned in.
