Over the next few days, Lena kept the key hidden in her pocket. She noticed her uncle, who had been helping her settle in, was acting strangely. His visits to the house were always brief, and he seemed distracted, as if he had something on his mind. Lena couldn't shake the feeling that he knew more than he was letting on.
One afternoon, when he was out, Lena decided to sneak into the study. She had already been through most of the house, but there was one room she hadn't dared to enter: her aunt's old study. It was locked, and the key she had found didn't seem to fit. But what if there was another key hidden somewhere?
She searched through the room, moving things aside, pulling open drawers, and rifling through old papers. And then, under a pile of old books, she found something she wasn't expecting: a second note.
"The key is the answer to everything. Don't let him find it."
Lena's heart pounded. Who was "him"? Was it her uncle?
