"I'll have an elderberry wine" she says, her voice matched her appearance, it was soft like that of a raven's feather and smooth like honey. I had barely realized that I was staring until she had approached me with a smirk "is there something on my face?" She asked, making my face heat up a bright red and send rockets or even butterflies to my stomach, making me start to stutter uncontrollably. "No-No, I-I- Y-You-you're just really pretty- I'm-I'm sorry" I say as I looked at anything else but her making her giggle and shake her head "it's alright love I know you mean no harm" she says with a soft smile, almost as if she knew something as my face burned even brighter than before. However, being here with her made me feel out of place but for some reason I felt like I knew her even if the moment did feel a little awkward.
"Here, call me and we can meet in a more appropriate place to talk, the name's Elania by the way" she says with a soft smile as she left me with her number written on a napkin and me a bit shaken up by the encounter. I mean, the Highwaywoman spoke to me and she gave me her number, most people would be freaking out! I was still shaking when the barkeep came over, shaking her head "she's an enchanting one that one, beware-" the barkeep starts. "I know, I know, 'Beware of the Highwaywoman for she's a dangerous man, she'll pull you in then drop you just because she can'," I say "we've all heard the legends surrounding her, maybe she's different than we expected." I added making the barkeep only shake her head "I doubt it" she replied.
"She's of Fae blood, you-" she starts "first of all the fae were here before us, we honor them and thank them for the good soil" I shot back, I was one of the few that didn't demonize the fae and we were few and far between. However when we found each other we usually stuck together and avoided conflict and unnecessary violence or trouble so it was best we kept silent. "I know Ves but I don't wanna see you get hurt" the barkeep says, making me roll my eyes in response. "I'll be fine Bess, just have some faith in me" I say with a shrug "Ves, it's not you we need faith in, it's her" Bess replied with a shake of her head.
"Still, let me go judgment free for once would you" I say as I took a sip of my absinthe. "I wish I could Ves, she's turned down at least ten guys in the past month alone, I don't want you to end up like those guys" she says "maybe she's like me Bess" I say with a shrug "she could just be a lesbian" I added. "I doubt it, I saw her out with that douche bag Eddie a few weeks ago" Bess replies "Eddie as in the Lard's son?" I asked, baffled and Bess nodded "damn" was all I could say. "Speaking of Eddie, I haven't seen him around recently," Bess says and I shrugged "He's probably out catching every STD under the sun" I say and Bess snorted.
"While I agree, I'm not commenting." Bess says in between chuckles. "Now, as much as I'd like t' keep you here Ves, I gotta close up" Bess says with a grin as I finish my drink. "Yea, yea Bess, I get it ya don't love me" I joked making her roll her eyes in protest "Now listen here ya little shit" she says making me grin. "See ya Bess" I say as I got up and quickly left giggling like a child.
When I got home I grabbed the napkin that Miss Elania gave me and I typed out several greetings before I finally settled on a message with my cheeks burning a bright red. She texted me back a 'Hey! You're that Bonny lass from the pub earlier, I never caught your name.' Which made me practically melt into my seat giggling over the fact she thought I was pretty. 'Thanks, the names Vespira but most people call me Ves or Eira' I sent back with a smile plastered on my face as I leaned back on my bed. I was giddy over meeting Elania, not only was she beautiful she was kind and in my mind I never wanted this to end.
I spoke to her for a few more hours until I fell asleep with the messages open and a smile on my face. The next morning I woke up, did my usual routine and messaged Ela. We had planned a time to meet up today which made me excited. The excitement, getting to my head making me smile while I slipped into a black dress with a v-neck and lantern sleeves before struggling with a corset.
I then put my long black hair up in a halo braid and slipped on some black Mary Jane's. I then looked at my pale reflection and my "red" eyes that vibrated back and forth due to something called nystagmus. I had naturally white hair due to no pigment but I dyed it to fit in with those around me. I only smile as I grabbed my phone and wallet before leaving, my sun and moon earrings dangling all the while on my walk.
When Elania came into view I greeted her with a wave and a hug before we sat down together. We were at a beautiful spot in the woods where a picnic was laid out across the grass and there were various pastries and tea sandwiches laid out as well as a bottle of elderberry wine with two glasses laid out for us. "What happened with Eddie if I may ask?" I asked, making Ela choke on her wine laughing. "That's one hell of a way to start a date, just askin' a pretty lassy who happens to be fae about her stalker she asked out so he'd stop" she says.
"I'm so sorry, I was genuinely curious because the prick hasn't been showing up at the pub at the usual time" I say "so you were worried about someone you dislike?" she asked skeptically, making me nod. "I grew up with him and we fell apart last year over a misunderstanding" I say and she nodded, telling me she was listening and understood what I was saying. "Another reason I Admire you, you're nothing like me" she says with a sad smile "that's not- mmff - " I started before I was cut off by her lips on mine, it was like something snapped in me as I kissed back and our tongues intertwined but It was then I realized that I wasn't a fling and an inkling told me this love would last a lifetime. However, I couldn't shake the feeling I had been in this exact spot before doing this exact same thing with her.
