Ben walked into class one Monday and sat down like normal. He waited for Ms. Johnson to take roll. But instead, Mr. Everton, the principal walked over to him and quietly whispered, "Please follow me to my office." Ben obeyed and got up to follow him. When they arrived at the front of the small school building, he was led past the receptionists table and into an office, there sat Ms. Johnson.
"Are you okay Ms. Johnson?" Ben asked as he was more than a good student, he was a caring one. Ms. Johnson smiled and answered, "More than okay Ben." It was then that a thick envelope was placed in front of him. Mr. Everton sat down. "Ben surely you know why you're here?" he said in his deep thunder-like voice. "I haven't the slightest clue, am I in trouble?" he asked cautiously. "Quite on the contrary Ben, please read the letter in front of you." He said.
The letter reads like this:
Dear Ben Willaims,
We were reviewing candidates for athletic scholarships in the Kansas area. We we're previously unaware of any talent in your particular area, Gattis. The we ran across your stat lines, and in case you haven't seen them they read like this: For Baseball 20 Homeruns, 50 Runs Batted In, 23 Stolen Bases, and a Batting average of .374. For football 24 Rushing Touchdowns and 14 Throwing. For Basketball 26.7 Points Per Game, 10.6 Rebounds Per Game and 12.4 Assists per game.
Young man you are the future athletic star at the University of Georgia in Athens. Whether you realize it or not these are absolutely ridiculous numbers for a highschooler. We saw these numbers and reached out to Gattis High only to find out you have a Grade Point Average of 4.0.
We would like to offer you a full ride to be a Georgia Bulldog, no expenses whatsoever, we will cover your Tuition, Housing and anything else, It would be a pleasure to have you!
Sincerely,
Mr. Michael W. Burle
Head of Recruiting
University Of Georgia
Tears started to flow down his face, his father had never thought he could be anything at all. Ms. Johnson spoke up, "It is my honor to think that i had anything to do with the education of such a talented student and if you wouldn't mind, I would like to recognize you in front of the school." He responded still crying, "Absolutely"
They walked back to the classroom where Ms. Johnson shouted for attention. "Everyone we are in the midst of a future star, Ben Williams, who just earlier this week was offered a scholarship for athletics at the University of Georgia." Everyone began applauding. Then a single voice in the back cried out, "Will you accept?" Ben thought for a while, "Could he accept?"
