The Current Status of the Kgaphola Settlement and Shift in Allegiance:
To this day, the land granted to the Kgaphola people by the Bakone under the leadership of Kgoshi Sepheu has not been expanded. It remains in its original form and size, as it was when they first settled beneath Thaba Maswikeng. As generations have grown children becoming men and women of Bakone elders have continued to assist the Kgaphola in allocating small portions of land for settlement, allowing them to establish homes and raise families.
Despite the peaceful coexistence and the deep-rooted support provided by the Bakone Royal House, a significant shift has recently taken place. The Kgaphola community, in a collective decision, has chosen to change their allegiance. They have now pledged their loyalty to the Pedi, aligning themselves with the Pedi chieftaincy. This move marks a notable departure from the original arrangements made between their forebears and the Bakone Royal Authority.
While the reasons behind this realignment may be many including cultural, political, or strategic, it stands as a turning point in the relationship between the Kgaphola and the Bakone. The history of support, unity, and shared customs remains, but allegiance has now taken a new direction, one that will shape the identity and future of the Kgaphola people going forward.
