After months on the front, Leo was assigned to intelligence - not because he had military training, but because he knew "too much."
He used history lessons to warn of attacks before they happened.
He helped decode messages (thank you, crossword addiction).
He once avoided a sniper because he remembered the guy from a history book.
He became a legend: the young soldier with perfect instincts.
But fate caught up.
During a raid on an old German research lab, Leo found it - the same ceramic cup, hidden in a bunker, glowing faintly. The time portal.
He stared at it, heart pounding.
Hope appeared behind him. "Is that your ride home?"
Leo looked at her. "You should come."
She shook her head. "I belong here. My fight is here."
He smiled - this time sadly. Then he did something completely stupid and entirely Leo:
He handed her a Polaroid selfie he took just before time travel. "Just so you know I was real."
And with a final, shaky breath, he sipped from the cup once again.
