The mind is a treacherous place. It can turn even the most fleeting encounters into a complex web of emotions. I didn't realize how deeply he had rooted himself in my thoughts until it was too late. It wasn't love, not in the way it's supposed to be. No, it was something darker, more consuming, like a thorn that burrows beneath the skin, festering over time.
I remember the first time I noticed it - how his presence lingered long after he was gone. It wasn't just his words or his touch that haunted me; it was the way he had seeped into my very being. I found myself thinking of him in the quiet moments, in the spaces between my thoughts, when I was supposed to be at peace. But there was no peace. Only him.
It was as If every inch of me was still reeling from the pain he had inflicted, yet at the same time, every part of me craved him. How could I feel this way? How could I want someone who had caused so much damage? But that's the thing about deception - it plays tricks on your mind. It makes you question yourself, doubt your own feelings, until you don't know where you stand anymore.
There were times I wondered if I was losing my mind. How could I be so drawn to someone who had left nothing but destruction in his wake? But it wasn't about him, not really. It was about the void he had left behind, a void that I was desperately trying to fill. I thought if I could just have him back, everything would be okay. But that was the lie I kept telling myself, the thorn that kept digging deeper.
I didn't realize how much he had invaded my unconscious mind until I started dreaming about him. Night after night, he was there, a shadow in the corners of my thoughts, a ghost I couldn't escape. I would wake up with his name on my lips, my heart racing, as if I had just run a marathon. It was exhausting, this endless cycle of longing and pain.
But the worst part was the anger. I was angry at myself for being so weak, for letting him get to me. How could I have been so foolish? How could I have fallen for someone like that? I had always prided myself on being strong, on not needing anyone. But he had slipped past my defenses, and now I was left with the wreckage.
I began to see the truth, though it was hard to accept. I had been a fool in love, blinded by my own desires. I had let him wrap himself around my heart, like a vine that chokes the life out of a tree. And now, I was left to pick up the pieces, to untangle the mess he had left behind.
But as I stared at the broken shards of what once was, I knew I had a choice. I could let the thorn remain, embedded in my soul, or I could start the painful process of removing it. It wouldn't be easy, and it wouldn't happen overnight. But I knew I couldn't continue to live like this, with him occupying every corner of my mind.
I might have to reclaim myself, inch by inch. I might have to pull out the roots he had planted in my heart, no matter how deep they went. And though it would hurt, I knew it was the only way to heal.
Because in the end, the thorn only has power if you let it. And I am done letting him control me.
