See You Again
The first time I saw her was on a rainy afternoon. The soft patter of raindrops against the window filled the silence in the café as I sat by myself, nursing a cup of coffee. I didn't expect anything to disrupt my routine that day, until she walked in.
She was drenched, her auburn hair clinging to her face as she shook the rain from her umbrella. She looked like she had walked right out of a novel - distant, yet familiar. Her green eyes scanned the café for a place to sit, and when they met mine, I felt a flutter deep inside, a sensation I hadn't experienced in years. She hesitated for a moment before approaching my table, her footsteps tentative, yet confident.
"Is this seat taken?" she asked, her voice soft but steady.
I blinked, caught off guard. "No, it's free," I said, gesturing to the chair across from me.
She smiled and sat down, folding her umbrella neatly beside her. A small moment, insignificant to anyone else, but in that instant, it felt like the beginning of something unspoken.
"I didn't mean to intrude," she said, brushing a wet strand of hair behind her ear. "I just needed to escape the storm for a while."
"No intrusion at all," I replied, my heart racing a little faster than I expected. "The storm has a way of making things feel… different, doesn't it?"
She nodded, her gaze distant, but somehow, she seemed to understand. "Maybe," she said, her lips curving into a smile, "or maybe it just gives us a reason to slow down."
We talked for hours, about everything and nothing - books, music, places we wanted to visit, the small, unnoticed wonders in everyday life. With each passing moment, I found myself drawn to her, not just by her beauty, but by the quiet, thoughtful way she observed the world.
As the rain finally let up and the last traces of daylight faded, she stood to leave. "It was nice meeting you," she said, her eyes locking onto mine.
"Yes, it was," I answered, feeling the weight of the moment. But before she could walk away, she turned and added, "I'll see you again."
I wanted to ask her what she meant, but the words caught in my throat. She smiled one last time, and with that, she was gone.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. I kept thinking about her. I couldn't shake the feeling that she hadn't just been a fleeting moment in my life.
One evening, I found myself at the same café again. I ordered the same coffee, sat by the same window, hoping - though I knew it was unlikely - that she might walk in. My heart did a little skip when I saw her enter, looking just as radiant as I remembered, though now the storm outside had long passed.
She noticed me almost immediately, her eyes lighting up. "I didn't think you'd actually be here," she said, making her way toward me.
"You said you'd see me again," I replied, a smile tugging at the corners of my mouth. "I figured I should wait."
Her laugh was soft, melodic. "I didn't think you'd take me literally," she teased, but there was something warm in her eyes. She sat down, and we fell into the same easy conversation we had that first day.
But this time, there was something deeper, something unspoken between us. A connection that neither of us could ignore. Hours passed, just like before, but now the silence between us felt comfortable, natural. We didn't need words to understand what the other was thinking.
As the evening wore on, and the café grew emptier, I asked, "What if I told you I don't want to just see you again? What if I want to always see you?"
She didn't respond right away. Instead, she took my hand, her fingers threading through mine. "I think," she said softly, "I would say, 'Then, let's never let go.'"
And with that, we knew. We had already found something rare, something worth holding onto, and we didn't need to wait for another storm to bring us together again.

Years later, when the world felt more uncertain than ever, I would always think back to that rainy afternoon. The day we met by chance, yet somehow, it felt like destiny had intervened.
We didn't need to say "goodbye" when we parted, because there was never an end to our story. It was a promise whispered in a quiet café: "I'll see you again."
And we always did.
