Chapter 1, like I was dreaming.
"Doctor! Doctor!I hope they are still alive?" I asked with tears rolling down my eyes "are they still breathing? Their bodies were being carried one after the other.
I watched them lying in a pool of blood,dying in my very own eyes.I could hardly identify them as the paramedics put them on a stretcher taking them directly to the theater to know if they'll survive the injuries but to no avail.
I watched my world crumble before my eyes.
I Am the only child of Mr. and Mrs.Smith,we live in Cutler bay,FL.I came from a poor background that has made life more difficult for me as a young girl.We ate from hand to mouth as there was no any support from any of the family members. So most times I plug some fruits from our little farm,hawk and get money to take to school the following day.I was still 13 and I hawk almost everyday just to survive.My dad only does his little farming in the backyard of our house and my mom a maid was trying so hard to support us and make sure I go to school.
I was attending one of the secondary schools in the neighborhood then where I met my friend Sarah who's the second child of her parents. She stays with her grandma because her parents don't live and work in Cutler bay,they decided to keep her in grandma's place since childhood but they are averagely okay,I and Sarah are best of friends,
We live in the same neighborhood too,my house is just a stone throw away from hers and that makes our friendship a blossom one.
I was in her place one afternoon after I was done with my house chores and assignments,"Rosey!" She screamed and hugged me,we hugged tightly and I pecked her before I went in to greet her grandma.The grandma noticed the stress and hungry look on my face and then ordered Sarah to give me some food."omg! your cloth is torn Rosey" Sarah said as she was surprised to see me in a torn and a faded gown.She quickly went inside her room to get another one for me to wear after eating. I gladly accepted it, "thanks so" I hugged her and then we played and watched movies till it was 6pm.I showed it to my mom as I got home,she was very happy and that has been my best clothes ever.
It was my final year in secondary school,I was sixteen while Sarah was seventeen but we're in the same class preparing for our final exams.Sarah had paid for all the fees we were asked to pay for but I haven't paid any.
My dad couldn't afford it so mum had begged from an outsider for money since the peanut money she was making from her job couldn't clear half of my bills.
The following week,we started our exams and after some days it was done and dusted looking forward to seeing our results.
Weeks later,it was a very hot afternoon and I heard this noise coming from the back of my window…"Rosey! Rosey! We made it,we made it" I rushed out to see who it was,it was Sarah singing we made it."Tell me wassup Sarah" I held her hands asking with curiosity immediately she told me,i started dancing with her and we both went to break the good news about our results to my parents, I could see the happiness in their eyes but….hmmm…
My mom started crying and dancing at the same time.That night I couldn't sleep as I kept thinking of how to fund my education. There was nobody to run to when it comes to financial matters.That was the saddest thing.
I continued to hawk some little, little farm produce from our backyard in order to gather some money to assist my parents.
Few months later,we both got an admission into a nursing school and we went to receive our admission letter.
At this point,my parents felt so sad and hopeless.All I had wished for is that Saray and I should be in the same university and my dream was to be a nurse but as it is, I don't think that would work because of my parents financial status.
They kept struggling from one menial job to another but things got tougher and tougher.
Sarah has a brother who comes around to say hi whenever their parents are back for a weekend break,Very handsome and intelligent.He usually making advances at me,I like him as a person but i wasn't ready for any relationship then,my head is filled with the thought of furthering my education and achieving my dreams so I wasn't ready to accommodate any distractions at all.
We were teenagers .He would bring me gifts and all that, He's Sarah's elder brother and the first born.
Anytime they're around, he would call me to come and visit him.I wouldn't hesitate to join the gathering as a family friend.I usually wear my best outfit whenever they are around.
On that Saturday, Sarah came to tell me that her mom and her brother had arrived so she invited me for lunch.I went to shower and wore the beautiful gown Sarah gave to me.
Meanwhile,my mom and dad already told me they were going to a friend's place to borrow some money for my admission.I knew the house would be boring so Informed them I was going to Sarah's house."Good afternoon ma" I greeted Sarah's mom."Welcome my darling have your sit" she replied.She brought some cookies,chocolate and all that,we were winning and dining together,I felt relaxed and enjoyed myself, "I can't remember when last i ate this i said to myself" "where l do we even get the money to buy them?"
All these questions were going through my mind when we heard a strange voice and some heavy knocks at the door, gba..gba..gba!! We were all shocked and then we took a pause listening to the voice saying please…please….
