The armored train thundered through the abandoned tunnels beneath New York.
The steel walls trembled with every turn.
Emily and Victoria stood side by side at one end of the carriage.
At the other stood Adrian Volkov.
Calm.
Unmoving.
As though he had expected this moment for years.
"You should have stayed behind," Volkov said.
Emily tightened her grip on her pistol.
"We're done chasing you."
Volkov smiled faintly.
"No."
"You're finally catching up."
Without warning, he pressed a button hidden inside his watch.
The train lights went out.
Darkness swallowed the carriage.
Only the emergency lights flickered to life a second later.
Volkov was gone.
"Split up?" Emily whispered.
Victoria shook her head.
"Never."
Emily smiled.
"I was hoping you'd say that."
Together they moved through the train, clearing one carriage after another.
The first was empty.
The second contained computer servers humming quietly.
The third was filled with crates of cash, forged passports and classified government files from countries all over the world.
Emily stared in disbelief.
"He wasn't planning to disappear."
Victoria nodded.
"He was planning to start over."
A metallic sound echoed from the next carriage.
Someone was there.
Emily carefully opened the door.
The moment she stepped inside, Volkov attacked.
He knocked the pistol from her hand before she could react.
It slid across the floor.
Victoria charged forward.
Volkov caught her injured arm, twisting it painfully.
Victoria gasped but refused to surrender.
Instead she drove her shoulder into his chest, sending all three crashing into the seats.
The train roared through the tunnel.
Emily recovered first and threw herself at Volkov.
The fight was brutal.
No guns.
Only fists.
Determination.
And years of pain.
Volkov managed to throw Emily aside.
She struck the wall hard.
He turned toward Victoria.
"You still fight like your father."
Victoria stood again despite the pain.
"No."
"I fight for something he never had."
"And what's that?"
Victoria glanced toward Emily, who was already back on her feet.
"Someone worth coming home to."
For the first time in many years...
Volkov hesitated.
It was only for a heartbeat.
But Emily saw it.
She and Victoria exchanged a look.
They attacked together.
Like they had trained for years.
Like they could read each other's thoughts.
The balance of the fight had finally begun to change.
And somewhere above them, the first rays of sunrise broke across the New York skyline.
A new day was beginning.
But deep beneath the city...
The final battle had only just begun.
