The weekend creeps closer. It's Friday evening and I'm just here, lying on my bed and listening to some music. I hear a beep and check my phone. It's Natalie.
"Hey girl, you won't believe what I just heard!!!"
I smile,knowing it's gonna be some good gossip,then I reply.
"Something good,I suppose?"
I barely responded before her next message appeared.
"You clearly made an impression on Andrew! He's been asking his friends about you! What did you talk about?"
I sit up,in total shock. At first I feel flattered. Andrew is an attractive guy,and I know every girl would feel honoured if he even just smiled at them. But then,my instincts kick in. Why do I need to impress him? I'm not some show pony. I'm a grown independent woman. And I don't need a….OH MY GOSH HE JUST TEXTED.
"Hey stalker"
I try to keep a calm pose.
"Ironic calling me a stalker when you're texting me right now…how did you get my number?"
I anxiously wait for a response. As I see him typing,I quickly go offline, trying not to act overeager. I hear my phone beep again, and I wait a minute or two before going online again.
"I have my contacts.LOL"
"Mm."
I stop responding, trying not to seem desperate. He doesn't text back either. Time goes by,and just as I think he's lost all interest and I go to bed,my phone beeps again.
"Good night :)"
I know this doesn't mean he's interested in me in any way,but somehow,it makes me feel…acknowledged. Okay, that just sounds dumb. I'm going to bed, because clearly this tiredness has got me hallucinating.
